@adasauce Reviewing resumes from the team in Indian was also kinda fun. I guess it's still normal to include a list of hobbies and extracurriculars on your resume over there (or at least it was a decade ago), so we'd get resumes for programmer jobs and they'd make a point of mentioning that they're expert folk dancers and guitar players. Chalk it up to cultural differences, I guess, but it also sort of amused me and made me wonder who these people were.

@adasauce Also, for some reason this made me remember when I was helping review resumes at an old job and one of the people submitted a bunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic as their writing samples. It was terribly written, but I appreciated the boldness of sending fanfic as part of a professional portfolio.

@adasauce WRT your first point: are there any gmail accounts that *wouldn't* show up on hibp?
The rest, though, yeah...gotta love those!

I'm not out on the #climatestrike because I'm a coward, I guess. But I am in support of what they're doing and I hope it makes a difference.

@ashfurrow OK, yeah, then I don't see any problem with that, unless maybe it's some kind of fediverse in-joke that wouldn't make sense on Twitter. But that's more a judgement call about the nature of the joke than about whether or not it's "OK" to re-post.

@ashfurrow I said "sure," but thinking about it a bit more, I think it depends on context. If it's your own toot, obviously re-posting is totally up to you. If it's someone else's, maybe ask them if they're OK with you re-posting on Twitter.
I mean, technically, this is a public form (DMs and follower-only messages notwithstanding), but I feel like the culture is such that it would be best to ask permission.

@bgcarlisle Somehow do this to American football, making it both safer for the athletes and probably even more entertaining for the audience.

@microbe11 @grainloom I've never used it. For search engines, I mostly use Startpage or Ecosia. Sometimes I also use DuckDuckGo.

@nev Weird electronic artist Momus has a whole album called "Folktronica" that takes Americana/Folk tropes and updates them for the tech era (sort of) and I feel like this would he have been a perfect fit.

Destroy the economy by only buying from second-hand stores, garage sales and trading gently used items amongst friends and family.
**Note: this will not actually destroy the economy but is arguably better for the environment, so that's a plus. Even better is not buying shit you don't need, but sometimes it's hard to resist a shiny thing and we're all part magpie deep down inside.

Destroy Google's monopoly by changing the default search engine on the computers/phones of the less tech savvy members of your family and friends group.
If you want to be really sneaky/dickish, you could change their default browser to Firefox, but change it to still use the Chrome icon and see how long it takes them to notice.

@grainloom I agree but also think there is value in destroying a tradename/trademark by making it generic (e.g., kleenex is now included in many dictionaries as a generic terms that refers to ANY brand of facial tissue). IP lawyers hate this one weird trick (even though marketers probably love it, so I'm kinda torn, tbh).
