@kensanata The Python standard library's "cmd" module makes writing command line interfaces an absolute breeze, I am a big fan.

@kensanata Great! Waiting on the account confirmation email to my SDF address now...
I take it you found the prototype not too horrible to use, then? While testing it, I kept flipping back and forth between thinking "this is so cool!" and "this is crazy, nobody wants to browse like this".

@kensanata Hey, thanks for getting in touch, I appreciate you asking about this instead of just going ahead and doing it. I am pleasantly surprised that somebody has been so quick to hack it!
I think I will set up my own account under this name and create a repo for VF-1, you can then submit a pull request and I will happily look at it. I will let you know when I have done this.

Who knows what the four "device control" characters in ASCII (0x10 - 0x14) were originally used for? All the obvious control actions for mechanical typing devices (line feed, carriage return, etc.) already have dedicated characters of their own...

@vfrmedia @craigmaloney Oh yes, I've no doubt the 800XL was a fine BASIC platform, it was doing it on the 2600 which struck me as mad. And it seems I was not wrong, from http://huguesjohnson.com/programming/atari-2600-basic/:
* Your entire program can not exceed 64 symbols
* There's a maximum of 9 lines, not really an issue considering the first item
* You only get integers from 0-99
* Only five math functions are available (+,-,*,รท,mod)
* In terms of graphics, you have two dots you can move by setting their coordinates -

I love this picture on so many levels.
For starters, the amount of care that the artist made in getting the machines and other computing paraphernalia correct.
But also because it encapsulates the promise that computers had in the 1970s. The sheer optimism that computers could really change the world in a positive way.
I still think they can. I refuse to believe that we've corrupted computing beyond that optimistic phase.

@lain Assuming you're talking about making it possible (and hopefully easy) for users to delete their own account, then bless you - this is a *sorely* underimplemented feature on the modern web.

@moonman Apparently he made a cameo in User Friendly, too: http://www.acme.com/software/thttpd/
Goodness, visiting acme.com and userfriendly.org in the same night, starting to feel like I've gone back in time 10 years...

Zilog, 197X: "Guess we have to come up with our own assembly mnemonics for legal reasons. I know! What if we made parentheses *almost* have a consistent and straightforward interpretation but then every now and then we just fucking threw them in anyway to keep people on their toes?".

When you Google "ASCII table" the first result is asciitable.com, but that is actually a terrible website. The table is just a big .gif so you can't search it, or copy and paste. On the off chance that anybody reading this has linked to it anything they've written, please consider linking somewhere else. ascii.cl seems alright?
