Also current trends seem toward a balkanized internet especially in the corporate / consumer space. We've seen it for a long time in the attempts to prop up an artificial and obsolete system of regional intellectual property rights licensing, and more of it now with the GDPR pushback and US sites and services cutting off EU users.

I question some of their assumptions though. Like they talk about disruption but the idea that these massive corporations are the future of technology isn't really questioned. They don't discuss tech-as-public-utility at all.

This is why we make an effort to support publishers who sell DRM free and outside the walled-garden ecosystems. We recently got the Angry Robot subscription. Everything they publish DRM free for £100 a year. (Way less than the paperback price)

It's not even that I'm stingy with my boosts. (As anyone following me is painfully aware lol)

But people who put "boost this" in their posts make me feel like they're using me. They just want me to click a button to help them get off on the dopamine high. It feels gross and unsanitary.

Whenever I see a post telling me to boost it I'm like 'nope'.

That shit could be the cure for cancer or cold fusion and I still wouldn't boost that shit.

I'm a contrarian at heart, I guess.

My brand is to announce my opinions publicly and then tack on "don't @ me" to indicate I'm super put upon by the number of people who desperately want to argue my opinions in the hope someone will argue with me and I can show my social superiority by being rude and condescending, justified by my Twitter victimhood as the recipient of an unsolicited @
