@lnxw48a1 The question is not whether or not this kind of thing happens. Â We all know it does. Â The question is what we the people, in our respective countries, can do to dismantle the apparatus that allows it to happen.
This is one of the things that I see people constantly complain about but not an a lot of actual action to address. Â There was a grassroots thing here in Ottawa where I live, which I was involved with for a short time, but a lot of the people there just wanted to complain about how bad of a problem this is, rather than do something to address it.

@bob @icedquinn The level of ridiculous ritual about the CA system would be really quite fascinating if it didn't have the unfortunate fact that this system underpins our modern society.
-
@bob This is like input sanitization 101, but you'd be surprised how many programs don't do this.
-
@bob We need more competing free services like that.
-
@bob I noticed that too on the network timeline here. Â It also can be a new instance that is using the conversation-filling feature from pleroma to grab old content. Â That feature is imperfect, and doesn't grab everything it should, but it can result in that.

@bob @amydentata I think cyberpunk a lost of its cachet of cool when we started transitioning basically to the kind of society cyberpunk novels were criticising. Â The difference between tragedy and comedy is often psychological distance.
-
@purplehippo This isn't a necessarily new phenomenon. Â For instance, consider how many of the politicians and priests strongly against homosexuality a couple decades ago have themselves been found to be engaging in homosexual sexual acts or consuming homosexual porn. Â It's a form of projection that feeds into my explanation before: they need to feel they are better than others.
-
It is so depressingly transparent how much these politicians ferment, feed, and fan the flames of such conflicts to their own benefits, and how much many people allow them to do so. Â The reasons are varied. Â Some people feel insecure, and feeling that they're at least better than the Bad People gives them a measure of comfort. Â Some people are aggressive and malicious, and need to feel like they're fighting something, and this kind of conflict is like a steak thrown to a hungry wolf. Â But irrespective of whether their intentions are pure or not, the people who, knowing this system is actively trying to create conflict, still engage in that conflict, are probably just perpetuating the system that they claim to "hate" and it is for that reason I do not believe them when they say they do.
-
We have this popular brand of exceptionalism in the mainstream right now, where it's alright to hate on people of certain races as long as it's the *wrong* race, or of people certain genders as long as it's *wrong* gender. Â This is still racism and this is still sexism. Â If we allow them to go unchecked, then it's only a matter of time before *you're* the wrong race or the wrong gender, and you're out. Â This creates cycles of internal conflict in the populace, which while certainly helpful for cretinous people like Trump and Theresa May to stay in power, has no place with people who lay claim to being empathetic and understanding.
-
@bob @mooncake The fact that it's considered an inherently white thing and it is socially acceptable to be racist against whites. Â That's what's "wrong" with it.

@halani I WAS THE GORILLA ALL ALONG
-
@lnxw48a1 This will be the case for any iOS application not released by Apple; any third party application not granted a specific exception by Apple cannot run network operations in the background. Â A few use push notifications to get around this, but this has obvious privacy implications.

@purplehippo @bob Oh yes, its legal now if you have a permit to Enjoy Women Having Sex, which is an actual thing (though Im giving it a silly name) and not some USA puritan's wet dream.
-
@purplehippo @bob It's almost like Brexit is meant to be a distraction or something.

In that particular run I like to imagine the game was pissy that I'd managed to down a bear and wolf that were both after me in fair succession.
-
@postmesmeric It's the thing that I've always liked about Rammstein (and Tiamat and a couple others), there's a lot of creative depth and nuance to the art that they are creating.

You spend your money how you want to, but you don't get to bemoan economic trends you are actively participating in yourself.
