    Compare to 16-bit flight sims. Sure, the graphics are old, but the graphical step between 8 and 16 made the difference between a simulator that's mostly played on its gauges and couldn't depict much more than an horizon, and a game that could depict buildings, objects, boats, other planes...

    @ocean Elite is a valiant attempt but I would argue its enjoyment comes from pretty much everything but flying the spaceship. At least, for me. By comparison, Frontier I can still play without having to put myself in a "retro" mood; it just plain holds up today.

    The 8-bit era was just one generation too early for enjoyable flight simulators. The fun ones only started appearing in the 16-bit era, because the ability to render 3d graphics in real time is a requirement, and the best the 8-bit computers could do was... limited to say the least.
