@craigmaloney any folk metal tracks come to your mind for the CCMA period? I know there was the one band out of Chicago that was vaguely folk metal. I suppose I should listen to it again and see if there's anything I can pass as a truly folk song.
We do need some help picking Album of the Year and Track of the Year nominees and winners after the genres are done (that's May 30). The problem is there are a ton of blocSonic nominees. We don't have all the winners yet, but it's possible some hip hop winners will come out of there too. We're trying to keep this as unbiased as possible
As far as genre awards, the only thing we are really still trying to figure out is #folk track nominees. Please, please, please send your suggestions. Please do NOT send album suggestions. It'll just be noise. Folk means whatever you want it to me, but given the other folk judge, doubt folktronica is going to end up being a winner. If you feel strongly that it's amazing though, I'll give it a shot.
As of the moment, this is my winner for the folk track: https://rallyroot.bandcamp.com/track/yes-i-do -- it's super poppy, so if you'd hate to see a folk award go to something so poppy, you better send me your suggestions.
Seems likely David Rovics is going to win album of the year of the folk category.
"I honestly don't think the software an instance uses determines how the userbase behaves." -- obviously false at some level. Mastodon does not have groups and thus the behavior of the userbase is to not use groups.
I think though that it's a big leap from "doesn't use groups" to "complete asshole", which is obviously what you mean in context.
That said, I think the lack of context (as in, not seeing messages when clicking through) and lack of ability to connect with similar people can have a negative impact on cross-platform discussion.
I just sent emails to Judd Madden and Vitne about collaborating on an atmospheric folk-inspired blackened doom album. It'll probably never happen, but still, the cats should really tell me to stop...
There are no good solutions at this point. I decided to disband the rock/pop category. Some of the jazz is pretty rocky. In fact, I have a suspicious a jazz rock album will end up winning, but will will see.
Have you listened to Vitne's Jupiter (https://vitne.bandcamp.com/album/jupiter)? If yes, and you think it's good enough to win, I'll write your bio, put your name on it, and there's our album winner. That's the one my dad picked. Basically, your bio will be "Open Metalcast" just as mine will be "Music Manumit, blocSonic" for the jazz category (and possibly folk). Then I just have to find someone for the tracks.
@craigmaloney You want to jump in on the rock/pop category for #CCMA? It definitely leans more rock since I ended up picking the nominees. I'd do it, but multiple blocSonic nominees. There are a couple of albums you may already have listened to (possibly more, but I doubt it)
@strypey@quitter.se Any desire to jump in at the last minute and help pick a !ccmusic winner in the rock/pop category? Nominees are already in, so it's just listening to 5 albums and 4 tracks (I think only one of the tracks is on one of the albums) and helping pick a winner with one other person. In fact, the other person has already ranked, so you could really probably just listen to the higher ranked and settle on a winner. The catch is you only have 8 days to do it.
@wolftune actually, I should be able to step in and be a folk judge since it's unlikely there are any blocSonic representatives in what you've pulled together.
Here's my help: David Rovics wins, if he's a nominee :)
