in a democracy, (non-corrupt) politicians don't represent truth, but the people who elected them. the press doesn't publish truth, but the agenda that its owners wish to push to influence the represented and ultimately the policies set by the representatives. quite often, scientific truth finds itself in minority positions, and ruled out by dominant agendas. that sucks, but unless we're willing to give up democracy, we need to learn how to do a better job at communicating despite the various forms of pressure

heh, I'd never realized how much the apparent plausibility of that story decayed over time. I mean, I've long realized that if you go up the atmosphere it gets colder, and you wouldn't have lift any more long before you get close enough to the sun for it to get warmer, even if you had enough strength in your arms to keep yourself alift. my new realization was that, if you could actually get close enough that wings would melt, the gravitational pull from earth would likely be negligible, and you'd be far more likely to be pulled into the sun instead, rather than fall in the sea. still, it was pretty good as far as extrapolating cause-and-effect within the boundaries of knowledge available at the time

uhh, that's a weird and likely misleading statement. the MIT/X11 license is as much of a free software license as it is an open-source one. likewise, GPL and AGPL both qualify as both. the definitions of FS and OSS are essentially equivalent, and OSS's was meant to be equivalent to FS's. goals of supporters of each are different, and that leads to different preferences, so your diagnosis is not unfounded. https://www.fsfla.org/blogs/lxo/pub/against-software-tyranny has more details

não tenho ideia do que você gostaria que eu admitisse. sua afirmação parte do pressuposto de que todos querem a mesma coisa, e que portanto um determinado programa (ou coleção de programas) poderia ser considerado estritamente melhor ou mais fácil que outro. a realidade é mais complexa. pessoas diferentes têm desejos, intenções e valores diferentes, e a beleza da liberdade é que um não impõe desejos, intenções ou valores sobre outro.
o que não entendo é por que alguém pegaria uma distro que se propõe a fazer uma coisa, isto é, que tem uma determinada característica, e daí, quando a característica aparece a ponto de fazer diferença visível, achar que essa característica é indesejável ou difícil. se parece indesejável, é porque a característica não era desejável para a pessoa, a escolha não estava adequada, a pessoa pode estar enganada ou desinformada ou confusa sobre seus valores. mas desvalorizar o programa por fazer bem o que ele se propõe a fazer e anuncia que faz?!? não, né?!

GNU são todas, a propósito. as distros de linux sem gnu se chamam android.
não sei se ela achará a instalação de GNU fácil ou difícil, mas se ela escolher uma distro pra defender sua liberdade e avisar quando um componente for incompatível com sua liberdade, parece-me que esse objetivo é alcançado com mais facilidade na distro de GNU/Linux-libre que na distro que sai instalando cavalos de tróia. já se ela quiser algo que comprometa sua liberdade, vai ser mais fácil com GNU/Linux que com GNU/Linux-libre. mas em nenhum dos dois casos é a instalação que é mais fácil ou mais difícil, é a ativação ou o bloqueio de um componente hostil ao usuário que as distros priorizam de acordo com seus valores. algumas se alinham com usuários e suas liberdades, outras se alinham com os fornecedores de hardware incompatível com a liberdade dos usuários e os ajudam a manter usuários controlados. qual é mais fácil no longo prazo?

não pulei, não, tava lá já na primeira mensagem da thread. mas depois vc escreveu: "Instalar um Debian ou um Triskel é uma terrível dor de cabeça na maioria dos notebooks", que foi o que me chamou a esclarecer que a dor de cabeça não é causada pelas distros, mas pelo hardware, pois seu post poderia ser lido de outra forma. o resto é ruído de comunicação :-(
