Dammit Janet! I love #WeAreNameless
Shortly #WeAreNameless will be presenting Rocky Horror Picture Show so heads up there will be a lot of chatter about it if you follow me.
If that sounds like your thing follow the hashtag...if you're a stick in the mud you might want to filter it for the next couple hours :blobtonguewink:
@matt that sound like it would be a...

@DialMforMara @hafnia @Canageek I remember when I reached the age that my grandmother was when her first child had her first child.
That was weird-squared.
@jybz @olimex yeah it looks more like 65mm by 50mm to me, but maybe the longer dimensions are from a different revision than the render? I'll have to download the design and check it out.
In any case I think the idea is fantastic. IP cameras are all too closed and have garbage firmware and terrible security, so an open solution would be more flexible and secure. If there is an open ONVIF server to put on it that would be perfect (I know of ONVIF client libraries already at least)
@feld that is also BS. The cost of printing a cheque and the postage exceeds the fees incurred from the bank and payment processor.
Another argument you can have with conservatives or American style "right libertarians" is around property rights and ownership.
Like, they say we are free because we can own our own property...our own capital, and have property rights.
Me: So Americans aren't free then.
Them: of course they are...
Me: not really. Few Americans own a home and fewer own the business they work for. So here's an idea. Workers should "seize" ownership of the "means of production"...
Them: ...
@jacethechicken socialism doesn't scale well in my opinion...at least the type traditionally practised, but a well conceived distribution system with efficient federation along these lines could address those scalability issues. The key is to have an engaged citizenry.
@kaniini this, and also the same for IoT. Both of which I must contend with daily.
I'm not really into sheep though. I think going to British Columbia to grow weed in the forest is more my speed.
@thegibson in China the government won the time war and throughout the entire country there is now only the One True 8AM. In western China the sun rises pretty late in the "morning".
In America the "time war" would be a bidding war rather than a series of physical battles. Hours like Noon would be in high demand and only affordable to large corporations. A VC funded tech company would become "the Uber of time" and rent out hours to "independent contractors" to deliver to us for a 30% cut.
@Lofenyy is like a form of gatekeeping. They put hurdles to jump through so that people don't want to go through the bother and just accept being billed.
It's not as if they deal in physical goods that need to have RMAs and/or be shipped back or anything that would justify the extra process. They provide only service (TV, music, phone, security, gym membership etc), which could be easily, instantly cancelled.
It's a sign that they lack faith in their ability to retain customers honestly.
Also, do you ever notice these corporate parasites have instant, efficient processes to charge your credit card, but to get refunds takes several days? When I cancelled ADT last year, not only did it take around 2 weeks to get a refund for the unused portion of the billing cycle, it could only be issued as a paper cheque via snail mail. Seriously. Like it was the 1988 not 2018.
Which is absolute BS. I've worked with payment processors enough to know issuing refunds is technically trivial.
So SiriusXM is one of those gross service-provider companies of the same kind as ADT security and satellite TV providers such that..
How to buy/subscribe to paid services: mail/telephone/online/carrier pidgeon/etc, 24/7/365
Renewal: automatic by default, notice of renewal only given once, in a paper letter via snail mail.
To cancel service or stop auto renew: only by phone. Only between hours X and Y and not on Sunday. Must listen to 15 minute sales pitch.
Eff off SiriusXM 🤬
Seems the TL;DR is "If you grant any IAM roles to anyone or anything you should just assume they can get full admin access to all your stuff with a modest amount of effort".
