@ewoozi @natecull The far south of India was never conquered by Muslims, was it? Did Buddhism persist there, then?
On the topic of Islamic influence on modern Hinduism, well, there’s also sexual modesty, isn’t there?

@ewoozi @natecull But your life didn’t end when you graduated, did it?
@nolan I take it you don’t see that using … Edge, I guess?
@nolan I wonder if the peculiar loading behavior in Amaroq is a feature or a bug. Similar in iOS Safari, by the way.

@bgcarlisle …unless they’re pickpockets.
Where I live, there are a Trader Joe and a Whole Foods just a few blocks from each other.
At the TJ, you don’t get sent to the “next available cashier” until their previous customer has started to walk away. At WF, you arrive at the register while the cashier’s still busy with your predecessor.
That is to say, the Whole Foods cashier has zero slack time. Do employees say “Thank you, #Bezos”?
Over the last few years, wifi kiosks have been replacing phone booths on the sidewalks of #NYC.
Today, as I passed one of those kiosks, I made eye contact with a guy loitering there with two leashed #dogs. It occurred to me to ask him if dogs have started to pee on those kiosks.
He said he hadn’t noticed that yet, but “all animals eventually go from analog to digital.”
Speaking of numbers, has anyone seen estimates of how much execution speed is gained by #speculative #execution? And how much extra power it draws?
Obviously, different SE techniques will yield different numbers, but I haven’t seen any attempt to disentangle SE’s effects from those of caching. In the history of commercial microprocessors, SE and caching have tended to increase in parallel.
I haven’t seen numbers on this, but a software patch for #speculative #execution flaws that slows your CPU will also make it suck more power, won’t it?
Usually I apply #iOS updates promptly. This time, though, I’m looking at my iPhone 6 becoming 40% slower: https://melv1n.com/iphone-performance-benchmarks-after-spectre-update/
It feels like the end of summer when I have to reconcile myself to the fact that there won’t be any more beach days.

The most amazing thing happened to me during my commute home last night. I was on a super-crowded subway, to the point where not everybody could fit in, and the conductor *didn't* lie and say there was another train directly behind!
I wonder if the new train time screens are making that lie too transparent for them to get away with?
@enkiv2 @natecull Maybe I’ll find a quick Trac™ programming language gig to pay for it.
@jbond One of programmers’ cardinal virtues, per Larry Wall.
@dredmorbius It sure is fun shiptoasting with you!
@dredmorbius Didn’t hurt a bit.
