So. A few rule changes are needed for technical issues that came up, but I'm not sure where I stand on balance and realism. This outcome is totally different from what really happened, but it actually seems plausible as something that could've happened; maybe should be allowed.

...which left the surviving foreigners in Peking fleeing to Paoting (lower left of map) pursued by the artillery units with the Empress Dowager in personal command. Meanwhile the Allied reinforcements were arriving and things looking bad for the Ch'ing in the Tientsin area. Costly, bloody Allied victory? No... while the Ch'ing and Allies were wearing each other down, both ignored the Boxers, who ended the game by killing the last of the Christians. Under the rules, that's a Boxer victory.

Latest playtest. Seymour took Hsi-ku early, which gave the Ch'ing the political will to attack the Legations much more seriously than they did in real history. Then Seymour just hung out waiting for reinforcements instead of heading for Peking. Tsai-i and Sung each committed honourable suicide after failing to wipe out their respective targets, in Tsai-i's case even with the artillery support that in real life he spent the whole war begging his superiors for and never received.

@artsyhonker So they mean "A=440Hz" and the standardized tuning system that includes it. That in itself does not seem to me to be a hugely culpable error.

@djsundog it was very tiring back in those days because the exchange operators had to make the dial tone themselves and theyd often get out of breath etc

Okay, I haven't written the press release yet, but I can get away with doing that tomorrow, right? Here's the store copy ready, and I'd kind of like to get it out before the Solstice is over. https://northcoastsynthesis.com/products/msk-012-transistor-adsr.html

It's easy to say you're in favour of legalization when it's an abstract hypothetical question, but do you want a gluten-free bakery in YOUR neighbourhood? The kind of people it'll attract? The effect on property values? Maybe next door to your children's school?

@thor I think you can use it to compensate for timing variations, but not amplitude.

@lain Wikipedia hath it that that "X-rays" was what Röntgen called them, though it's possible that that was the usual dodge of giving something a silly or no name so that others will be inclined to name it after you.

@thor It seems to be trying to cover all possible kinds of geometries where this sort of thing applies, at once. But punching "point-line duality" into Google turns up some other stuff that looks just at the basic two-dimensional plane and may be easier to understand.

@thor Yes. This is called "point-line duality" and is sometimes used in proving theorems in projective geometry, because many statements you can make about points and lines are also true if you swap the two. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duality_%28projective_geometry%29

Movies usually use a recording of a red-tailed hawk to represent the cry of an eagle, because the sound that eagles really make is considered too wimpy.
