@freemo I don't really have a choice because I sell to Europe. I didn't find it to be all that bad, though. Noticeably different from lead but I quickly got accustomed to it. It helps to use the right soldering iron temperature, flux, etc. There are also differences among the lead-free alloys - I'm using Sn96, which is a little more expensive but also a little easier to use than Sn99. Both are popular.
@Olivia Funny thing. I'm from BC, where logging, and subsequent tree planting, are a big thing. Tree planters are typically college students on summer break. It's rough work, doesn't take much skill, pays on a piecework basis which means the money is only good if you work unreasonably hard. And when you're not working, you're out in the bush, what is there to do? Well, I've not been there, but I've heard from people who have that what tree-planters do in their off time is smoke crack.
@adidal I don't know. I certainly get a lot of email originating from Chinese servers, though, so it seems clear that some kind of connectivity is available. Trying to encrypt messages would likely attract the wrong kind of attention.
@hushpiper@lain Although true as far as it goes, I'm not too worried about stupid clients as long as a diversity of clients remains available. If one client starts to gain special status as The client, then it becomes more of a problem.
@lain Do we know that that is how the app store rulers operate? I'd more expect them to ban apps whenever they feel like doing so and use "it has access to bad things" as a rationalization if applicable - so that being generic is no protection, they'll just find some other excuse, and being non-generic doesn't meaningfully increase the risk of being banned.
I went to the park to get some fresh air and brainstorm topics to write about in my new alt account. Moments after sitting down on a bench in the shade in what looked like a quiet corner, I was surrounded by two distinct groups of white girls who appeared to be designing the choreography for dance routines set to J-pop music.
