@djsundog The latest once (that Uber thing) included attempts to explain to the court what SVN is, and the grand question if doing a full-repository checkout is suspicious
GPL and GPL-like licenses were a mistake because now every hobby programmer is a hobby lawyer too and spends their days writing lawyer fanfiction in github issues
@er1n The thing with the "it was all so simple back in the day" take is that it only really works if you speak English, there is a generation of German speakers who just learned to never type Ä and substitute Ae (oe and ue for the others respectively) in computers, because that's the way it was (not directly shaping but it already breaks the 1-byte-per-character assumption)
Benjamin Franklin invented bitcoin when he famously flew his kite, what they don't tell you is that he got really annoyed at electricity for hurting his hand and conceived a brilliant master plan to waste as much as possible of it on useless work
@Elizafox This seems like an exaggeration? Plenty of non-optimal mobile coverage in non-developing countries, if you want total fast coverage in Germany you have to have at least a dual SIM phone as well
@Normandy I can understand the amazement (in the same sense I'm impressed by someone writing something in e.g. Brainfuck), but especially in the areas where complicated shell scripts pop up (maintenance tasks and process automation, e.g. old-style service scripts) this complexity is a killer.
If given the choice I'd almost prefer declarative, standardized languages (e.g. systemd unit files) where possible
