@nightpool Worth noting that these are all DoS: it'll be annoying, and might take your site down, but nobody's going to take it *over* by attacking them, either, and if you're attacked, it'll be obvious (at the time, anyway).
Y'know, yeah. If you're in Chicagoland and need someone along with you somewhere, let me know and I'll try to make myself available.
(I travel sometimes, so I can't promise that I'll always be available, but I can try. A couple+ days of lead time is ideal, but reach out if you need something regardless. You're not alone.)
Hat tip to @djsundog who's doing similarly in his neck of the woods[1]. Mostly I expect this'd be handy for doctor/government stuff[2], but I'm also up for other things.
@gaditb Most consumer internet connections use a shared medium for upload and download (DSL, DOCSIS cable). This isn't automatically symmetric; it has to be split into frequencies for upload and frequencies for download. (They can't be both simultaneously: again, shared medium for send and receive.) Most users download more than they upload so the usual split is calculated in their favor: symmetric would have more of their connection sit idle most of the time.
@nowplaying There's a number of clever songs on that album. I remember getting it free, legally, via BitTorrent, back when that was a noteworthy stunt (http://www.harveydanger.com/press/why.php ). "Moral Centralia" in particular is nice, but "Cream and Bastards Rise" and "War Buddies" have some lyrics I was entertained to hear and parse through.
@djsundog That's more like it. A gentle nudging every now and then in the absence of other action, just to remind you that they're there if you need them.
@bea Yawn, maybe? Rest? Read a few things you've been meaning to read? Sync your configs across your AWS fleet? Automate provisioning of River Basin Network connections? Build a better AWS replacement? Lead a nation with a microphone? Host a quarter of the world's websites, flaunting national borders? Replace BGP with a system designed to decentralize control, leading to a rise in community networks and a decrease in censorship?
@djsundog Oh, sure. It starts as thinking out loud in public, but before you know it you're doing DHTs and asking your neighbors for "just one last lawnmower registration, I swear!".
@djsundog I've honestly held this position for, uh, I guess upwards of a decade now? I'd be willing to accept prefix, too, but infix is Bad. Ignoring that operations are functions is bad. (I don't like the implied arities, though.)
It simplifies so many things, even up through calculus. (A lot fewer special cases to memorize for derivatives once you realize that the chain rule applies to everything, etc.)
Finally got a PR together to allow hiding reblogs from a user, yay. That took... longer than I expected. (https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/pull/212 if anyone's bored and feels like lending some code review.)
