The PC party is a never-ending nightmare of terrible ideas, but there is some joy in seeing Ford get dunked on by literally thousands of people on a daily basis
"OMG can't trust Mozilla they're giving away your data AGAIN"
cool cool so let me switch from the most independent, privacy-supportive modern browser to...[checks notes] a browser developed by one of the world's largest data brokers
@z428 Warrant canary expiration on Spideroak (that was just renaming a webpage), a beta recommendation system in Firefox (that is optional and opt-in), and so on...
@ink_slinger@allan I feel like a lot of this stuff is biology digging any explanation out of the frontal cortex in order to reproduce.
The "selfish" one surprised me when I first heard it, too. My initial thought was, "so, you'll bring another person into the world, spend 20 of your best and precious years raising it...so you can incrementally support your social security payments?"
@ink_slinger Well, that second part is wild - never thought about it that way.
I read once that personality traits of family members are only loosely linked, and so you're essentially related to just random people vs folks with common values and perspectives. Since then, I've given a lot less weight to the idea of blood family as emotional support. There are certainly common interests that drive most to be decent people, but it stops there.
I drew long ago. If you want to use it freely...(Don't wont anyone? lol) You can rewrite the balloon and use it, but at that time change my name on the lower right as well. I do not want to get angry ...(sorry, I can't use English well)
Today on Bud's #WeeklyGeekOut . . . facial recognition software and a hidden camera was found in a Calgary shopping mall; its owners were testing it to approximate shoppers' age and gender. Now, the privacy commissioners have stepped in.
A wave of spambots just hit malfunctioning.technology, took me awhile to ban them all after closing registration. I really need to upgrade all my Masto servers to the latest version and block this particular email server, but I've been trying to have a pleasant summer away from the computer instead, so I've been lazy. 😛
The annoying thing about the spam is that for the spammer it's automated whereas for the Masto admin it's a laborious point-and-click exercise. An uneven fight.
I like to think that when the robots become intelligent and take over the world, they'll share a bunch of cute Roomba memes over the hive-mind, like we do with cats.
My #mastodonadmins friends: I think the wave of spammers is going to get worse, and I think it goes a lot further than just spam. Basically, I think Russia is going to try to use us the same way they used Twitter and Facebook in the 2016 elections. We can't let that happen.
@ink_slinger I'd advise against a Chromebook unless you are okay with minimum functionality. Anything beyond the native ChromeOS apps is pretty clunky.
My recommendation is a two or three year old ultrabooks from eBay. my two cents.
