I have nothing actually useful to offer, but that sounds like an amazing trip! I visited the Czech Republic years ago and it was gorgeous. -

@artixx Ah, right you are, but I hadn't really investigated hooktube before. It seems good. I'm all in favor of alternatives to those lame G* monoliths when possible.

@hund Makes sense. It had an old whirly harddrive that crapped out years ago and I replaced it. Don't know much about quality on the newer netbook SSDs, but it's not surprising if they use the cheapest parts they can.

@hund I haven't done a lot of debugging on this particular error. The apache server was still going, but the nextcloud install gave a Not Found. It is an old netbook - my favorite machine, it's so adorable. It's probably 10 years old, a Dell MiniV. I put a new SSD drive in it, and it runs well with Debian Stretch.
This error might be fixable, but I might as well try something new, just to play with something I haven't played with before. :)

I want to love Nextcloud, but the installs I set up don't seem to work reliably. I was so excited about my little Debian netbook running the nextcloud server, and it just stopped working over night. Before that I had a Raspberry Pi that was crazy slow. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but maybe I'll try out Seafile and/or Syncthing.

@Linux Yes, Sailfish does look pretty awesome. Definitely a possibility for the future.

@artixx No, you're quite right. I have been afraid of bricking my shiny new tablet (it seems a lot riskier than a simple linux install), but it is not too late for a backup and a better Rom. I planned to do it sooner or later. Thanks for the real talk. :)

Coming from the iphone world, I am pretty enthusiastic about being able to sideload apps to my tablet. I feel so in control!
De-googling a tablet was partially a test run for my next phone: using an android without google (as much as I can control). That seems super easy to do now. The Librem is of course my dream phone, but until that's affordable and practical for me, this is forward progress.

@artixx Ah yes! I'd been meaning to post about that. I have not been bold enough to flash Lineage or a custom ROM.
But, I haven't signed in to anything Google, disabled/removed as much bloatware as possible, said no to all the permissions I could find, and installed stuff from FDroid and Yalp or APK mirror when I needed something not on FDroid. Sticking to open source as much as a I can, but there are some gaps that I needed for function. Not perfect, but super easy and works well.

I know this is a nerd community, but I want you to know that the girly world of wedding dresses is the absolute worst. Please just let me install some operating systems. Thank goodness for emotional support from those who are good at this stuff.

@hund Well, right at this moment there is a kernel panic because the grub borked on installing another distro, but that's fixable. But in general, nothing wrong with Manjaro, except it's so fun to twiddle with. I get addicted to twiddling and then have to shake myself loose and focus. That's my own little struggle. :)
