@soerengeti @kuketzblog As mentioned above there is invidio.us - all the videos without G tracking. And there is microG (for the store yalp). G javascript junk (analytics, etc.) on websites is annoying though (they should use something like piwik). G captcha is stupid too, necessary for some sites.

@amolith @gael I completely agree with everything you wrote so far about messengers, @amolith. It's also true that xmpp clients should be more user friendly. Many of the clients did implement omemo recently and it's truly cross-platform. Xmpp needs polish, but it offers all the features I'd like to see in a modern day messenger. Unfortunately (partly because of the issues) it's not wide-spread yet; the question is, if it ever will be...

@topio How stupid one has to be to participate in that time wasting, data hamstering payback nonsense?

@artixx
Well, that kind of depends on budget I guess. The reMarkable is the best e-ink device I've ever used and it's very clearly running Linux. It's fairly expensive though, so may not be a feasible option. -

@algernon I see, agreed. What I meant is that many left github as it belongs to M$oft now and there are alternatives (gitlab, notabug, etc). Although similar things could of course also happen on other platforms.

@algernon Not nice... Although wanting to be a bit "evil", I'd say that's the price of being on github.

@kuketzblog Would be interesting to have a closer look also at search engines like yippy.com or peekier.

@triF5 @kuketzblog Yep, umatrix is brilliant! It blocks every third party junk. It'd be nice to have a web-wide public list for umatrix with only the stuff enabled that is required to run the basic site - everything else should be blocked on default.

@soapdog Haha, so you did not pay the 25€ for the license? Maybe if you have bought one, the project would be still alive. :D All in all it's impressive that the guy alone completed such a system, even if - let's face it - it had no real point. SkyOS was binary compatible to linux (not sure how win32 worked but it was planned). IT history would be different if Apple managed to buy BeOS back in the days...

@loke I'm not sure it was a "wow", but I really liked the presentation "Emacs for Writers". Also things like the website emacs.sexy make some curious about this editor. After all I gave it a try because of Mr. Stallman.
Well, it's an editor you have to get used to, I guess. Personally I do not like all those ctrl shortcuts. Also, why would I use e.g. jabber.el (emacs xmpp) if it does not support omemo and there is something like profanity (with omemo plugin)? Anyway, I'll give it a try again. -

@hund Ouch!!
Interesting with qutebrowser that it works on FreeBSD, but it does not recommended on OpenBSD because their version of qtwebkit is too old.
qutebrowser and otter browser belong to the few browsers which are not spyware (recently I gave surf (suckless) browser a try and liked it too). Would like to see an analysis how Seamonkey (spyware, security, usability) delivers. -

@captainepoch @infosechandbook I'm not sure that Waterfox is that trustworthy though...

I also lost faith in Firefox but that's a different story. Wish there would be a bit more behind Seamonkey, which browser is still going strong.

@soapdog OpenVMS and BareMetal!
Well, not especially liking them but at least these are the ones I know. Although it's unix-like, let me mention SkyOS. An OS which had a working beta release but it's gone by now. I do admire the brilliance behind all these projects (even if these systems often have a very limited user-base).
