Here is why I finally left the birdsite. I originally wrote this article in October 2017 where I felt I had to hang on there, for promotional purposes, but now that's no longer a reason to stay. My reasons are probably similar to why most of you are here: tired of hate, harassment, Trump, Russian bots and Alex Jones. The birdsite is funamentally broken.

Hot off the press! My new video in the "Bond in Context" series, examining the historical background of the #JamesBond movies, tackles "Diamonds Are Forever" from 1971, my favorite Bond film. Vietnam, Nixon, money, overture to China, Howard Hughes, Las Vegas and the film's rampant homophobia all get explained. This is my most in-depth look yet!

World War II began in Europe 79 years ago, on September 1, 1939. The killings began, however, the night before at Gleiwitz Radio Tower in Poland. In this video I take you to that place (on Google Earth) and show you where history was made. It looks the same today!

Madonna has appeared on the cover of hundreds of magazines since she first hit the charts in the early β80βs. This small fraction of Madonna memorabilia I have sporadically collected over the years has become increasingly collectible.
Check out my tribute βThere will never be anyone like her ever again! Lady Madonna at 60.' -

@josephkaminski
I downloaded my archive and am preserving that privately. I'm deleting because if I'm not there to mind the account I won't know if people try to mine old tweets to use against me, and I won't be in a position of defending them. (Not that I said anything bad, but Nazis have been doing that kind of thing). Also, at least publicly I think social media should be kind of ephemeral. It seems odd that every utterance should be preserved forever. -

I'm so happy to be here on Mastodon where there are no Nazis or harassment. And my friends are starting to arrive too. So glad to see it!

Been working on my new book, "The Boston Vanishings." It's a non-traditional story with multiple narrators. It's been so interesting finding their voices and their stories. Trying to put myself in the minds of different people, a Muslim woman, an African-American man (who can't walk), a woman unsure of who she is. Their stories are so interesting. They're writing the book, not me.

Ok, one more #introduction toot. This is me in a nutshell people. I am a Melbourne based blogger. I believe that the world is round & that art is one of our most important treasures. I have seen far too many classic films & I definitely believe that coffee runs through my veins and possibly a little bit of wine too. As a student of history, I favour ancient & medieval history. Music though pretty much rules my life and inspires my mood. Fav sub genres #Alternative #Rock #Pop

These pictures of Jupiter taken by the Juno spacecraft are fucking with my emotions; I remember avidly staring at grainy black and white photos of the planets when I was very little. Absolutely breathtaking #astronomy

@wion I'm not deleting the account because I don't want anyone else to pick up the user name and impersonate me (I do have a public presence). But I am deleting almost all my tweets, locking the account and may mass-unfollow people. I also changed the password to something confusing that I can't remember easily and am not storing the password on my browser or phone.

Whelp, I just deleted the birdsite app from my phone. I am in the process of breaking down my account there, mass-deleting tweets and I've said my farewells. No turning back. I was on there 10 years.

@goldest My Ph.D. is in environmental history. My dissertation was on the Year Without Summer (1816) and societal effects in the U.S. and Europe. I do a lot of history on my blog in many different areas, but I'm principally known as a historian of climate change.

79 years ago today, August 31, 1939, was the last day of peace before the beginning of World War II in Europe. Look at these haunting images taken in Warsaw just days before the war began. The calm before the storm:

You stomped around Charlottesville in 2017 shouting, "Jews will not replace us!"
In 2018 you were too cowardly even to show up at your own rally. You chickened out!
But thousands of anti-racist protesters were there. Many of them Jews.
And after Charlottesville, most of you lost your jobs because your bosses don't want to employ Nazis.
Who took those jobs you vacated? Non-Nazis. Probably a few Jews among them.
I am a Jew.
So you know what?
Jews replaced you. Literally! πππππ -

This article from years ago was suddenly very popular on my blog today. When Ancient Egypt was cool: the "Tutmania" craze of the early 1920s.
