@roko @thatbrickster It would seem that way. I don't even know where the priorities of the police are... but when people speak out against crimes towards children or take matters into their own hands, it would seem they are more likely to get in trouble than the perpetrators. We're told to rely on the police... but look how incompetent they are! I wouldn't trust them to protect me.
-
@roko @thatbrickster At this point, I think we're pretty fucked. The police are stretched as it is because of other ridiculous laws they have to sort out. I don't think they will do much here... especially since the communities involved in it. Only the people in those communities can decide to stand against it and not partake in it. The UK is a country full of many different cultures and communities.
-
@thatbrickster @roko Yep. Seems like there are no consequences for people that do this to poor little girls.
-
@rice @dwmatiz @lain @roko Figures it would be them.
Hmm... I don't like the sounds of this either: " Labia stretching is also categorized as Type IV. Common in southern and eastern Africa, the practice is supposed to enhance sexual pleasure for the man and add to the sense of a woman as a closed space. From the age of eight, girls are encouraged to stretch their inner labia using sticks and massage. Girls in Uganda are told they may have difficulty giving birth without stretched labia." If they aren't sewing it up, they are tightening it up or stretching it... just can't leave it be. Apparently eating dates helps with pregnancy, so... no need for all this crap.
-
@roko It shouldn't have to be but the practice is still common in certain countries and cultures. Having your genitals mutilated is not an honour. It will scar you for life.
-
@harmlessgryphon It's better if they earn it for themselves than just get handouts. They will appreciate it much more.
-
@sw0rn Oops... not us. I mean the industry and me are on opposite ends. xD
-
Righto... things should be sorted now.
-
@sw0rn That's a big understatement to me! We are on opposite ends and won't see eye-to-eye... I'd like to see that industry vanish completely.
-
@harmlessgryphon It does seem that way, huh? Then again, I've never really understood any of this push except that it is virtue signalling. It's enough that we're diverse and allow all sorts of people into the country... I don't think we need to give special treatment or to be made to feel guilt.
-
I'm really glad that I wasn't born into a country or culture where FGM is common... even though I do know it happens to a lot of women in this country still. One girl is too many. So many screwed, screwed up people pulling this shit on poor little girls. Their screams going unnoticed... the very people who are supposed to protect them break this trust. It's tragic.
-
FGM is really sickening. I just cringe reading up on it.
-
@harmlessgryphon @fl0wn @rathy @aven @roka Shudder! He sounds like a very questionable person. Screwed up.
Then he has no leg to stand on. I don't get this obsession with handing stuff over to black people either. Last I checked, it is white people that are the minority worldwide and in plenty of countries too. Just not the one that counts... apparently.
-
You guessed it. I'll never agree to FGM or MGM for my children or to any child out there. I can only decide for my own children. There are enough complications in this area as it is... there is no need to add more that really damage the individual. If you care about the long-term health of your child, you wouldn't do this.
-
For female genital mutilation... it really is mutilation: "Procedures differ according to the country or ethnic group. They include removal of the clitoral hood and clitoral glans; removal of the inner labia; and removal of the inner and outer labia and closure of the vulva. In this last procedure, known as infibulation, a small hole is left for the passage of urine and menstrual fluid; the vagina is opened for intercourse and opened further for childbirth."
This really robs women of the ability to find pleasure in procreation... to feel comfortable and healthy. FGM damages healthy sexual behaviour for women and just adds more pain than needed. It's psychologically damaging and should never be done.
-
@nerthos I'm intrigued to hear what happens later!
-
@wowaname Yeah. That is why it is so important for parents to say no and break the cycle. Some parents get it done because it happened to the father or older siblings from what I read too... but it'll never stop if people have that mentality. It's not difficult to explain the differences in time. I will never circumcise my sons.
-
@nerthos Ahh... good point. Plenty of eyes on her.
-
Say no to circumcision. Break the cycle with your own decision.
-
@nerthos Sounds good. Although it is a bit freaky to allow someone into your bedroom that tried to kill you. xD
