So I bought some canned chili with beans at some kind of clearance outlet because it was half a dollar. Just to see how it tastes.

I think it's my favorite chili of all time.

    Dennison's Original.

I'm sure it's made from saw dust and the like. Guess that means I don't like good chili.

@codesections Given the fact that just about every forum has posts calling people we know good and well aren't dummies, 'dummie' because they didn't as a question the way someone seasoned on the topic would or didn't understand the millions of search results telling them the answer to their question, I think 'For Dummies' is really a jab at the RTFM haters on help forums and is totally acceptable.

'Dummies' is meant as a tongue in cheek rebutting of RTFM replies.

    I approve whole heartedly.

It seems that every time I turn around and interface I liked has generally changed for the worse.

Navigation by 'crumbs', endless pages, and, the latest, microwaves that start for 4 minutes as soon as you press the '4' of the '45' seconds you want the thing to cook for.

@HerraBRE My guess is there's nothing we don't already know about. Rather, it was discussed in a way that made him understand it's not acceptable behavior.

    Hope it all works out.

Wow. So what did Linus say this week that was so horrible that even he himself was appalled?

I've been educated on two points.

    1) This is common practice now. ASUS doesn't seem to be worse than others.
    2) This helps the laptop be resistant to water.
    3) BONUS! Most companies make models with removable batteries, too.

Therefore, while I'd still not buy one without an accessible battery, I withdraw my assault against ASUS...

@emsenn You mean this laptop is water resistant? That seems impossible.

I know they make phones water resistant but laptops?

But, yes, they'll not consider it a defect. And they won't miss my $1,000, either.

I did a quick search and this seems to be an issue for others in as much as there are pages dedicated to best laptop with removable battery.

Looks like I've still got choices should I need a new laptop.

@emsenn I don't suppose me not buying any with this defect will have an impact but I'll be darned if I will.

I'll convert to all desktops before I buy a new laptop with this defect.

@emsenn I'm typically on the trailing edge. I tend to get my computers from thrift stores in for less than $50. This is the first I've had that requires you to remove the keyboard to remove the battery.

If this is the lay of the land, I guess I'll not buy any new laptops until they hit the sub $20 range.

Got my hands on my first ASUS laptop. I will NEVER recommend ASUS to anyone.I got this second hand for $10 USD. The ram and hd were worth that.

Nevertheless, this laptop, full size to include separate numeric keypad buttons, requires you to open the case and remove the keyboard to replace the batter, hard drive, or memory!

About a dozen screws and 3, ribbon cables to fasten!

What evil people think it's acceptable to have to remove 3 ribbon cables to replace a battery or hard drive?

Bought some laptops which were missing screws. Somehow I spent $30 and hours ordering replacement screws.

I shouldn't have complained so much when I could walk into a local shop and buy small screws for 50 cents a piece.
