I don't know TAL (I am german). Entertainment and Information can coexist, also - like you - I enjoy Facts more. I'd recommend a science cast called "Methodisch Inkorrekt" (but it is german:/) that IMHO combines both worlds perfectly.

I want a decent amount of composing and found out that everything is faster If I don't use a opengl backend. Xcomp has less effects but is really snappy. And less Flicker while screencasting or recording.

Can anyone confirm?

More Important than the mic is the room itself. Golden choice would be to put some sound damping walls behind and in front of you.
Cheaper solution: Attach some curtains to the walls. Should kill a good portion of reverb.
