i don't know if i've mentioned this but one of my 💻 work tasks involves pasting stuff into a 5000-character text field and none of the text editors i use have character counts so i've just been typing "head -c 5000 file.txt" in the terminal, for several years

@wohali yeah. I have been seeing an uptick in people posting cicadas to /r/whatsthisbug which is a sign ours are almost here

also, I can never remember how to pronounce "cicada". my nightmare is someone coming over and asking what I'm looking for. I'll probably just say I lost my keys

many people think cicadas are all periodical (13-year, 17-year), but there are cicadas that emerge annually as well. that's the kind we have here. called "dog day cicadas" because of when they come out.
