Yeah. #Nano. I respect that, even if he's only using it for the stream, because it is understandable.

When someone uses an editor with a twelve-step key sequence to perform a task, I can't understand it, so I drop the stream pretty quickly.

@lain @duponin It isn't "cheapskate" to say that at some point, camera pricing only makes sense if you're using it for producing income.

When I sent #sonTwo $3,000 to replace his broken camera, it was _only_ because he used the camera in one of his jobs.

@astheroth Gab has threatened to fork Mastodon based on the theory that Google Play would have to ban all Mastodon apps to ban Gab, and therefore wouldn't.

@maiyannah He's not thinking clearly. He just sees dollar signs.

Unless Google's censored search is less censored than other searches available in China, there's no way to gain any openness benefit at all.

Once a corporate CEO sees riches dangling before his/her eyes, he/she would likely sell his/her own mother to get them.

Despite the popular fad to hate it, I never hated Java.

But... now that Oracle is managing it... I'm learning to hate it.

@lnxw48a1 There was a bit of a row in my area here when a Purolator driver who obviously couldn't be bothered even going to the door, ended up breaking a window trying to toss a package onto someone's porch.

@maiyannah PG&E's bankruptcy is mostly an attempt to avoid paying out for wrongful deaths in the city of Paradise and neighboring communities as well as the costs of fighting the fire.

As for burying cables, I would guess that it is easier to get "we're just going to build a few towers" approved by federal and state agencies than putting high voltage power lines underground. It also less costly (though I still think that's the way it should be done).

Be aware that there are *two different* US Mountain times right now. Denver and Phoenix are both on Mountain time, but one is on Mountain Standard Time and the other is currently on Mountain Daylight Time.

@maiyannah For server hosting, it is because of the price difference between a VPS with tebibytes (tera-binary-bytes) of disk space and getting one with less storage and using S3/Wasabi/whomever. I think part of the problem is attempted permanence: storing old media from remote instances can lead to unbounded storage growth. We need to recognize that local media is more important than remote media, and that we can place limits on both.

Why do people insist on "cloud" storage rather than just getting a machine that actually meets their needs?

There is no such thing as the cloud.  Just other people's computers.

You never know what demons someone is wrestling with when you interact with them online, especially if you have never met with them.  Be gentle.

I have no tolerance for people harassing anyone regardless of the supposed moral high ground they do or do not have.  There are people who denegrate real harassment by calling simply disagreement harassment, sure, but to pretend there aren't people being dicks and actually harassing people online is to be either incredibly naive, or willfully blind of the world around you.
