@nika Have you tried the website? Works pretty great in Firefox for Android (especially in :firefox_nightly: where you can add it to the home screen and launch it like an app). Supports push notifications!
@nick Completely agree that a browser tab is preferable (I refuse to use the Slack application and instead load it in my browser of choice - same goes for Spotify though their web interface is inferior to the application).
But sometimes you want to do things that aren't available on the Web (interface with some C code, run in the background and show up in the system tray) - and for those cases I think Electron has a place.
@zack Electrino could solve most of the common complaints (at least on Window and macOS), but it is a huge undertaking and development seems to have stopped.
Websites that always use iPhones/Macs in their mockups when ~80% of the world uses Androids/PCs is maybe a good metaphor for how we in the tech industry tend to design products that serve the privileged few (like ourselves) who can afford such luxury items
@djsundog I just realized after nearly a year that I could just use the browser instead of a dedicated Mastodon app 🙄 Upon registration I must have operated under the assumption that a dedicated app would be superior to the browser in every measure and form :oh_no:
@nolan Nice to see a commitment for Push Notifications as well (Apple hasn't said a thing about this, but then again there doesn't seem to be much excitement about Service Workers in their camp)! Do you know if WebView exposes this APIs? I'm wondering if Edge can provide the same functionality on Android as well.
@moz Don't see your point. Website creators are free to choose what technologies they want. Mastodon is a PWA that takes advantage of Service Worker and Push Notifications and it is not tied to any Google APIs.
I wrote a blog-post on #steemit about the #Patreon#blowup ... people there are probably more for blockchain solutions, but there are many artists there and I though a small write-up would be fitting.
