@briablo Neither of them seemed very changed by the experience. Tuvok kept being dull, Neelix kept being annoying. I know it was before character development in TV shows was the norm, but that was a huge missed opportunity.
My dream is to visit every county in every state with a camera. My long-term plan is to use my music to fund my photography, which is what I really want to be doing with my life.
This is great for you. Rather than be yet another modestly successful musician, I make tools for people who actually want to be musicians. I make melodies, synth presets, sound effects, and other handy things you can use to make the latest hit.
Captain Janeway had to stick as hard to Federation principles as Picard. Otherwise, she would have had a coup on her hands, either by the Maquis crew or someone like Tom Paris.
It was an interesting look at trying to apply beliefs made for a quadrant the Federation dominates to one where it doesn't exist.
If you're new to Masto (or are old to it but still figuring it out) and you want to know how to sort out who to follow: One of my best methods is to find a good conversation, see who's saying things there that make sense, /and follow that profile/.
It's a vastly better algo than checking who's following you (assortment of rando space alien cats), soliciting suggestions (though that can work).
It also means that the best way to get followers /is to converse productively/.
I set a goal of $500. If I don't hit it by March 2018, I'll have to de-prioritize the Patreon and focus on other, more traditional ways of making money like products and services.
I like the idea of Patreon, but it needs to start working for me soon. 2018 is crunch time for me. I really need to get this independent income thing going. I already gave my last Patreon a full year of all my spare energy without much result.
I like making electronic music, but I like playing with the tools more. Your support helps me keep doing that instead of getting a drab, soul-crushing job.
Long-term, support from people like you will help me start a blog where I buy and review new tools, without worrying about being biased by companies giving me free review copies.
@celesteh The alternative seems to be one becoming more like the other. Content warnings are a fundamental part of the culture that's formed around Mastodon. I'd hate to lose that because the early users and devs of federated social media didn't see the need for something so important.
