RT @EFF@twitter.com: BREAKING: Worst possible outcome in the European Parliament copyright vote: MEPs vote for #uploadfilters , #linktax, a narrow #TDM exception for data-mining, no #freedomofpanoramaโ€”plus a new IP right for sports organizers.

Free Software is good but on its own isn't enough.
When you look at the definition of Free Software you will notice how it is very programmer centric in its sense of freedom.

Those who can't program and don't have the time to acquire the skill are directly excluded from most of the freedom we associate with Free Software.
The only freedom they have is to run a free program and redistribute it without restriction.

If your software could be useful to non-technical people, make sure they still have access to the participatory part of Software Freedom.

    Write accessible documentation.

Provide ways for non-technical people to contribute to your project.

And most importantly: Listen to the feedback of non-technical users equally, if not more than that of technical people.

Freak power flicker that my battery backup didn't catch somehow cause several .so files in my /usr/lib directory to die and system wasn't able to recover from. Booted into an Arch setup USB, copied over the .so files causing kernel panic. Then able to boot again, got networking working and issued"pacman -Qnq | pacman -S -" to reinstall all 1870 packages (which took less than 5 minutes). Now everything is fine.

@matt I was digging Korora for a while, but then they announced this spring the developers were taking a break for a while so migrated back to Arch.

In getting ready to begin exporting data for the ILS migration, I was doing some back of the tablet calculations today and was shocked to estimate that all of my library's bibliographic data will only come to about 150MBs. I feel like I've been wading around in that vast ocean for 15 years and it turns out it's only a thimble full of bits.

@Iramch Thanks for your perspective on this. I did keep in mind to be polite to the person I was texting with. I've never done something like that before, and probably never will again. Especially hearing your feedback.

@foureyedsoul ended up switching to pcloud. Their software works on M$, Applโ‚ฌ, and Linux. Ultimately decided against spider oak because their mobile clients are read only and I wanted something to upload my photos. Everything seems to be working great with pcloud.

Yeah right? my argument to her was if they're willing to do this to their customers they probably treat their employees pretty badly too and their employees should find themselves and protection in the form of a union. initially they were giving refunds at least that's what I've read on the forums but apparently their Bean counters didn't account for how many of us Linux users would try to get our money back
