Some more #Alternatives to follow on #FollowFriday:
@lib_reviews Lib.reviews: Building an open alternative to Yelp
@pixelfed PixelFed: Ethical alternative to Instagram, launching very soon
@mhall119 GetTogether: Account of the lead developer on an alternative to MeetUp.com
@openstreetmap OpenStreetMap: The open source mapping project, mirrored on the OSM English instance 🗺️
@inventaire Inventaire: An open source book exchange site, you make new friends and lend each other books 📚
@polymerwitch It's great to meet you, and thanks for the PRs!
The co-op is more than welcome to use the hosted https://gettogether.community for free for their events too
@gutigen @switchingsocial I haven't worked at Canonical in over a year. It's BSD because Django is BSD and that reduces impedance mismatch.
@brandon @switchingsocial login and sharing via 3rd party services can be configured on a per-instance basis, you can turn them all off if you want a privacy focused site
@quimgil doesn't look like it right now, but I'll keep checking back
@switchingsocial @bortzmeyer Precisely, I hope to see things like gettogether.gnome org or gettogether.linux.com
@switchingsocial @bortzmeyer I wanted .org, but it was taken.
@macgirvin @deadsuperhero @paulfree14 GetTogether provides a separate iCal feed per team, but it doesn't contain attendee information. Can that be added without exposing the email addresses of the attendees?
@lightweight Would you mind filing an issue on Github for this? I'll create a "papercuts" label for it
@lightweight Yeah, there's going to need to be a big "papercuts" push soon.
@lightweight I see that you have URLs in your event description, did you know you can use Markdown to add formatting and make them proper links?
@lightweight It's the only way to compete against such monopolies isn't it? Build a thousand small communities that can talk to each other
@lightweight Anybody who is interested can help make it better too: https://github.com/GetTogetherComm/GetTogether
I'm hoping to see contributions soon to add better federation and ActivityPub support
@lightweight #GetTogether sends both HTML and plain text, using proper MIME encoding, and each is independently defined to the content is appropriate so it looks good no matter which you choose to view :)
@falgn0n I looked into a "Share on Mastodon" button, but it wasn't very straightforward to do. I'm hoping to get more ActivityPub featured added to #gettogether so it can automatically share to the fedeverse
@prassee What would Microsoft get out of that?
@colon_three What have you done to my brain!
@mike 🔥
@mike uh, that's Fahrenheit right?
