@dulcet @LeoSammallahti the best system would be a low monthly subscription ($2-$3) that covers operations and base content with additional micro charges ($.10-$.25) for popular content.

Really it’s the only way to create enough of a pool of revenue to incentivize quality content by lowering the commitment bar to get more subscribers and allow for hot content/creators to monetize when they are able.

@LeoSammallahti sounds like good incentive to produce higher quality (or at least more popular) articles.

At 1 cent there would really no reason to have free content other than for marketing purposes to attract new users (members). 5 to 10 cents would also not be unreasonable. How many quality articles can one expect to consume for $1 any way.

A big hurdle you have at a $1/month is the processing fees as a % greatly reduce revenue available. Batching a couple months help a little.

Beware of any ideology or movement that demands purity or perfection.

At best they will just fail.

    At worst they become totalitarian.

More likely they’ll just make things worse.

Well at least hinder things from getting better by discarding ideas, people, and contributions that may incrementally improve conditions but aren’t deemed radically pure enough.

Ever wonder who keeps the SC lights on? Who updates SC software? Who responds when something goes wrong and our beloved instance goes dark?

Well for the past year it's been two dedicated volunteers (@mayel @vmatekole ) but it's time we make it a team effort.

#socialcoop Tech Admin Ops Team needs you.

Nominations are now open for (2) Coordinator, (2) Critical Infrastructure Maintenance Developer, and (1-10) Project Developer positions.

@samtoland @scholzt_newschooledu @ntnsndr Always thought we could accomplish a virtual fund for Platform Coop start ups through the investment club model now that the Job's act has fully came into being but yet to get that off that ground. Maybe now is the time. CC @mattcropp

@ntnsndr @scholzt_newschooledu @samtoland going to look into those. What has been missing since the very beginning (2104) is a pool of high risk non debt-investment that can go towards early stage Platform Coop start ups that have scale potential.

Also missing is an incubator to standardize and vet Platform Coops.

Basically we need what makes Silicon Valley start-ups successful while leaving behind what has made them awful.

@Matt_Noyes yes for sure. I believe you are in Denver now area correct?

A good start could be to pull together local Social Coop folks for occasional in person soft gatherings.

With Nathan and Jason Wiener (coop attorney) you actually have two of the movers and shakers in the movement in your backyard (Boulder).

The "some employment" riddle I unfortunately I not cracked. Not for lack of devotion to the movement.

For all the potential of online connection place still matters.

If you live or have deep connections to where an abundance of resources in knowledge, funding (and most important) motivated likeminded colalborators reside you get greater access to those opportunities.

If you do not you do not. Period. No matter how many times you tweet or toot @ them.

For #platfromcoop development in the U.S. it's NYC.

For progressive coop development in general it's Oakland.

@ntnsndr so the specific scope of the grant is critical analysis of the digital economy, open source tools and from the financing side child care, elder care, home services, and recycling only?

Still no funding to cooperative projects in the broader digital "freelancer" economy out there.

    Damn.

So this is awesome. Anyone at PCC know how much (or if any) of those funds will go towards helping develop and launch specific platform coops?

Say like a cooperatively owned competitor to Google owned Youtube?
