I made the mistake of going into the office on Tuesday to water my plants and catch up on some work. Nothing unusual happened but the combined stress of the workplace crept in, wrecked my sleep, and left me unable to do anything yesterday.
For me this is actually pretty personal. I really hate people telling me what to do (or what I can't do).
This might be something that is more or less unique to me. I do know that it has an impact on a lot of what I have to say. When the default position is that someone has authority over me, I rebel.
Yes, this has gotten me into a lot of trouble over the years.
I love and honour the many people I come into contact with - the indigneous, the queer, the feminist, and also the war victims, the refugees, the faithful, the traditional...
I cannot, though, do as they all ask.
Sometimes they ask for contradictory things. Traditional and modern conceptions of the role and voice of women, for example.
Sometimes they ask for too much - that they own, for example, that which I know should be open and freely shared.
Today was a nice ride to Avonmore and back, followed by a nap. This turkey vulture was spotted en route. The photo makes me think that I should be preparing my camera settings more carefully ahead of time to get the best quality photo in a hurry - even with some time I couldn't focus properly and the shutter speed was too slow. Still, it's a magnificent bird. And it was cleaning the road of roadkill - what a friend.
@theartguy@bgcarlisle My point is, everything is political. And when people tell me "don't be political" they are really saying to me that only a certain political perspective is permitted here. That only certain topics (defined by them!) can be addressed. I'm not willing to accept that.
My alternative is to keep the discourse respectful and (mostly) upbeat. I'm not perfect, but I make a good effort. And most people don't even notice that I've made a political point. And we live in harmony.
@bgcarlisle I don't add warnings to my political opinions, mostly because I don't need to. I wear my politics on my sleeve (and my sports affiliation on my icon).
