@aparrish @dredmorbius It is perhaps apocryphal because I can't find any actual records to support the fact, but I would swear that the first time that Facebook implemented the Like button was in response to demands that people were getting too many identical comments for the post in the form of "I like this!" and "Good Job!" and "+1!" and similar.
The Like button was supposed to be a shorthand of this, in order to surface the "real comments"...

Just to note that Gab was where the shooter was active, and Gab is under pressure to boot their racist & extremist members..
The pipe-bomber was more active on Twitter & Instagram though, and both profiles have been suspended by their respective corporates.

RDF is really great because it can describe anything with a graph of triples (subject, verb, object) and every part of the graph can be drawn from different ontologies (languages or namespaces). Very flexible and powerful. Not that hard to learn.
As for venture capital money, well...I don't know if its poison but it does suggest a conflict of interest. Inrupt has been very slow to come out with a developer toolkit. Why? It may just be a miscalculation or lack of resources?

So the way I see it two major criticisms of TimBL's #Solid / #Inrupt initiative are starting to crystalize:
β’ Venture Capital money is poison
β’ RDF sucks
But beyond that there is an *at least* faint hopefulness that the Decentralized Web is starting to become A Thing in the general public consciousness, if only because TimBL is bringing up the subject.
