As an analogy to #malware (malicious software) and #maluser (malicious user) I thought I could portmanteau "malicious content" to #malcontent. But that already has another meaning, although not entire inappropriate

You need a proxy that strips out #Javascript, ads, and other bad stuff before it hits your last-mile connection. Maybe #selfhost a #PiHole from home then connect to it from the hotel?

@clacke I remember the proposal for putting ads on Identi.ca, and I also remember the huge outcry at the proposal. I don't remember if Evan actually put ads on Identi.ca; if so, it didn't last more than a few weeks. It may have been on a less popular Status.net instance.

The monitor on my laptop (HP ProBook 6560b) is dying, and the squealing has been getting worse. Now there are two burned-out lamps (LEDs? Fluoroscents?) at the right side; I can sometimes force them on by cycling the power to the screen (using the Fn+F4 hotkey to cycle between monitor settings). When the bad lamps come on again the squealing is louder. I think it may be capacitor plague.

#X200 users: has anyone noticed a very loud high-frequency noise coming from the inverter when the monitor brightness is below max? It's not CPU frequency scaling noise---I hear that too. I'm unfortunately rather sensitive to high-frequency noises. I'm having trouble determining if this is a common issue with X200s.

If so, has anyone tried replacing the inverter, and had success in resolving the issue? I don't want to spend the money if it's not going to work. But I want to figure out something. Even if that involves hardware hacking.

On the upside, I do have #GuixSD running and everything's going pretty well!

How many #InfoSec #SysAdmin #DevOps and other techie people have dedicated servers running and not being used most of the time to their full potential? I know I do.

Surely there is a way to have them connect and create a libre cloud - think of it as SETI@Home or Folding@Home, but for running services (say, docker containers or VMs).

That could create infrastructure for people who cannot afford their own servers, but would like to play with stuff.
