@bob I've said for years that centralizing on #Github for #code-hosting is a mistake and a lapse of judgement. It's repeating #SourceForge all over. -

#Stop-Playing-Bullshit -

GitLab open sourced push mirroring and added it core. This is a great win for #decentralization!!! You can now run your own canonical GitLab instance & easily mirror to GitHub for findability.Read more here: https://about.gitlab.com/2018/05/22/gitlab-10-8-released/#push-mirroring-now-open-source
Another reason why GitLab is #1
#federation #fediverse #decentralize
https://octodon.social/@vickysteeves/100091310262159064Think about opening your new project on gitlab.com instead of #github. Later on you can migrate it to your own server. github = dead end

Both #Twitter and #Github have reported storing passwords in plaintext over the last two days. I wanted to alleviate any concerns - WE DO NOT STORE PASSWORDS IN PLAINTEXT.
Sure, I could just be saying that. So to help prove this to you guys, here is my user account as it appears in the backend database. I have redacted my personal email and half the hash, because rainbow tables, yo.

With 5 open pull requests https://github.com/pulls?utf8=✓&q=is%3Aopen+is%3Apr+author%3AMrPetovan against #Friendica on #GitHub, I'm calling it a night. I want to keep on going with a couple of tasks, but my server currently is a mess of manually updated files for testing all the different branches. #WebDevLife In conversation from friendica.mrpetovan.com permalink -

This is a bit depressing.

This underlying problem needs to become a priority. Either pressuring #github to go free software or getting free software to go elsewhere.
Github becoming synonymous with open source just muddies free software waters more.
Free Software needs free tools.

Maybe you should also mention that #Pleroma development is done on own #GitLab instance, and not #GitHub. — That's an advantage, IMO.
So I'm intrigued.In conversation from functional.cafe permalink
