Thinking about creating a new-school of user interface design by integrating the work of Edward Tufte and Jef Ruskin.

Looks like I'm going to need to learn more about building Linux for ARM to get the most performance out of the SOPINE modules in #rainpsc.

As much as I like the #pine64 hardware, and appreciate that it's open, they don't do a great job of supporting it on the software side šŸ˜‚

ā€œDesigning systems on the assumption they’ll never fail doesn’t give you good systems, it gives you the Titanic. Smart engineers know entropy isn’t just a good idea, it’s the (second) law (of thermodynamics) and plan accordingly, designing systems that glide to a graceful halt when they go wrong – rather than exploding in a cloud of white-hot shrapnel.ā€

@cjd @icedquinn yeah, I have to say as much as I use dynamically typed languages, I prefer static types, especially ones that reflect the true types of the system.

I’ve wasted many more hours chasing dynamic type errors than I have fixing static type errors the compiler pointed me directly to šŸ˜‚

Reading about Newton script made me realize how it’s kind of dumb that we try to use existing tools for new types of devices with little respect for device constraints.

Instead we cram something like a crippled OSX or Windows or Java onto a phone, instead of coming up with something new that’s designed for the purpose.

It ā€œworksā€, and you can argue the cost-effectiveness, but it’s also kind of dumb, lazy and has serious side-effects.

@h @vertigo I came late to compiles languages, it must have been around 1992-3 that I first used C. Until then it was BASIC and assembler (using and assembler I wrote in BASIC šŸ˜‚)
