@revenant Let's Encrypt is good. My only concern with it is that it's a single point of failure. If it were to go away for any reason then hosting multiple clearnet sites could become a lot more expensive.

If the fediverse continues to grow in 2018 and turns into Twitter 2.0 I'll be very disappointed. But I'm not expecting that to happen. Even if there is mass adoption I think the federated structure will be sufficient to mostly preserve existing communities.

@ubergeek Which reminds me that I added an onion address to !Freedombone mesh peers if they're connected to an internet router. That should allow for VPN through tor, but I havn't tested it.

Looking back I think Google Reader shutting down was the thing that tipped me towards thinking about taking control of the technology I use and rely on. I didn't self-host anything at that point. I have my own rss server now and a nextcloud server. Also, over the past year I have completely ditched hangouts, telegram and twitter for wire and mastodon.

@hayley I think Oliver Sacks described the opposite case in which someone who lost their sight retained something like visual imagery.

I expect this is like the opposite of synesthesia. Instead of having an additional link between sensory modalities there is maybe a missing link between the visual cortex and some other area involved in imagination without sensory input.
