@keithzg Yeah, I hear that a lot, actually. Honestly, I don't know that I want to maintain an instance, yet this is one of the key things that brought me to #Mastodon, controlling my own data. I'll probably go through mastohost anyway, but I hear some people absolutely love the additional tweaks of pleroma.

The only thing that I currently use is maps. I've tried others, but because they have so much info it is tough to escape when you're lost.

@kai @lnxw48a1 Yeah, there are few cities doing it right. Chicago, NY, and what, London? It's funny that the biggest issue here in YEG is drivers. When a proposed train is supposed to cross a lane of traffic and will affect left turns...NO NO NO! Despite actual traffic reports stating this will help, drivers scream.

It's just a different lifestyle. Many people in Chicago I talk to think owning a car is insane.

@jon @polymerwitch It's an interesting concern, small communities dealing with the federation issues. You can only control your local timeline, not the federated one. Just as you can ask me to leave your home if you don't like something I said, but I'm free to say it outside, off of your property. Moderation is such a fascinating topic. Wow!

@polymerwitch @jon I'm encouraged that you're bringing more conversation about moderation.

I just don't know what level that happens at. I don't like country music but I don't have any way tho stop someone from making a country music instance. I can block them though, from my own account or instance.

I do like some of the suggestions that some instances are "too big." Small communities vs catch-all.

@jon Yes to what @polymerwitch is saying. Thus, point 1 is problematic. We're all individuals and this is a decentralized platform.

No one should ever be harassed, but this is a problem in society in general. A complete stranger making a comment about my gorgeous ass will be accepted differently than if my friend and co-worker of 10 years said the same thing.

So how can we govern a decentralised place
