@jillybobww You are right. It is abuse.
We will never have a safe and respectful online space (not just on Masto, but on a fork or anywhere else) until we acknowledge ALL the insidious ways abusers abuse. Over & over I see people saying that someone isn't responsible for their followers going after someone they CLEARLY set up as a target. "But he didn't tell them to attack her." No, but he talked about her again & again, negatively & as the wronged party, until his followers saw her as an enemy. We need to recognize this as abuse.
Found a security issue compromising end-to-end encryption in #Keybase under some circumstances. Response so far: known issue, not worth fixing. It doesn't look like they misjudged the severity here, so I am just speechless. Stay tuned... #infosec #cybersecurity #ee2e
@SelfsameSynonym I can't speak for others, I don't spend enough time on The Discourse to adjudicate cases. I don't even know the cases you're talking about.
If you have a specific case in mind, I am ok to look into it, but I won't just throw my voice and reputation (such as it is) in a pot without some due diligence.
That said, the ForkTogether concepts, along with operational governance concepts, would help in addressing harassment cases.
DeRay wrote a book. 10/10 will read again.
Any rustaceans available to help a newbie resolve #rust `cargo +nightly build` errors for a project using external crates with unstable features?
@dredmorbius do you care about integrated comments?
@wiloma @bhtooefr Awesome! I remember reading that article when it came out. Love to read more if you've got more links
when last studying for job interviews, I found 3 separate implementations of HeapSort in the algorithm manuals. Wrote a blog about it.

@SelfsameSynonym Busy professional with a family here and a stack of other responsibilities to boot.
Worse, the fediverse is a *federation*. That means that even if the #ForkTogether crew creates a great Federated States Of Awesome, some other group can create a Federated States of Showing My Butthole To People Who Don't Want To See It. Then you have to figure out how to properly mediate. Unless you want to fully break federation with the #ForkTogether
@pnathan Oh yeah, shit, I forgot about that.
The Temperance movement. Enjoy your Graham crackers, Kellogg's corn flakes, and genital mutilation for all sexes.
@bhtooefr But the Europeans didn't stay with bland food, did they? (I'm not going to remark on the brits, of whom the legend says that they boil everything, and /that/ is their national cusine. anyway they got curried)
@bhtooefr I read somewhere on the internet ( ;-) ) that there was a belief that spicy food led to sin and bad behavior, and Eleanor Roosevelt sort of was in the camp there, so she pressed the relief foods and programs to have certain types of bland food.
I mean, it was the internet. It'll say anything for a like.
@dan I have not. I tend to avoid video - I read very fast and the texts that go into the depths here are very much sociological/anthropological in nature.
I'm curious about US #food #history, 1800-1975?/2010?
In particular, I want to understand why American cooking is so famously bland and limited in ingredients. Looking at some recipes from the 1700s, it seems clear that food was fairly heavily seasoned at one time.
It's a perennial curiosity - e.g., my wife and I remember that the tea selection when young was "Liptons" and some Celestial Seasonings- now any store has yards of different companies and flavors on the shelf. Same for cheese.
There is a #tea festival in #Seattle on September 29/30 and it looks mad fun. Let’s go.
:eyes_happy: http://www.nwteafestival.com/
The program looks legit as heck. Brewing technique workshops, artisan tea tastings, tea growing workshops, bunch of vendors... 15$ entrance fee and some work shops cost more or have limited capacity, but even just the door fee includes plenty of opportunities to taste nice things and learn cool things and a tasting cup to boot.
@mckern don't forget Batman and Iron Man, the Literal Rich Dudes Saving The World By Themselves.
Doghorn, adj. (a portmanteau of "dogwhistle" and "foghorn") Describes a statement or behavior that does not directly state the person's position on a subject, but indicates it so unsubtly that any observer could understand the person's true intent.
Also n. subst. and v.
Reading Old Dreams of a New Reich - it's about the different concepts of what a völkisch world would look like, usually through fictionalisation.
I am reminded again that superheros are Übermenschen by definition. Or, if you like, aristocracy by definition of meritocracy.
My candidate for the most /recent/ neo-fascist fictionalization is The Incredibles.
