    > you have the luxury and privilege of not having to think about your gender as it relates to your identity.

Yeah, I've thought about that argument too (I wouldn't have raised the issue if I weren't conflicted).

I *do* think that there's a spectrum of gender salience, even for cis folks. Here's a quote from the linked blog post:

Nope, disabling the math co processor was an actual step in the manufacturing process:

    > It turns out it was cheaper to just make the good ones than to have two different factories [for the chips with the co processor and for the chips without]. Then they would sell the crippled one to regular folks and the normal one to rich people. Some people were outraged at this.

Also, do you know the story of how Intel used to deliberately sabotage their budget processors?

    > Back in the early days of PC processors, Intel used to use one factory to make all of their processors. Their expensive high-end processors were identical to the crap bargain stuff they sold, right up until the bargain ones rolled off the assembly line and they deliberately destroyed the math co-processor.

    > Underclock your processor to give your machine a cool, calm existence.

I realize you're joking, but it makes me wonder: *would* an underclocked CPU run cooler than a lower powered CPU running at it's normal max speed?

@lawremipsum Because gender isn't a large part of my personal self identity, I don't feel great about having it be one of the first things I say in a very short bio—that seems to give the wrong impression about what goes into my identity.

Plus, I also worry that (as someone who is male and spends time in tech spaces) listing my pronoun would emphasize the over-abundance of men in those spaces.

Do those strike you as good reasons to leave pronouns off bios?

(Feel free to ignore if this is too much of a 101 conversation)

    > But it's important that [communicating pronouns] not become a form of social pressure for people to commit to pronouns that they're not comfortable with

On thing I've struggled with is that gender is not a particularly salient part of my self-identity. I'm cis—but very much in a "cis by default", https://web.archive.org/web/20130221074557/http://ozyfrantz.com/2013/02/18/cis-by-default/ sort of way.

I have a 2012 MacBook air that's been gathering dust for the last couple of years (since I switched to #linux full time)

I'm now thinking about using it as a home server with #pihole and a print server (inspired partly by my own printing-from-Linux issues, and also @kev recent toots about his similar struggles).

I know power consumption won't be as great as on an ARM device and I'll lose sime Linux utilities I'm used to. Any other flaws in this plan?

I have temporarily "resolved" the issue I was previously having with my external monitor by snapping the connector on my HDMI cable in an unrelated accident. So no I don't have *any* images displayed on the monitor.

    Oops!

Ok, I'm actually really stumped here.

I am trying to set up a new external monitor (to use in a desktop-replacement setup, with the laptop lid closed), and it works—except that my windows manager only displays windows on ~2/3 of the screen.

The rest of the screen is still a valid display—I can see my mouse cursor there, but I just don't get any windows displayed there.

I thought it was an issue with my config, but I get the exact same behavior on #stumpwm and #dwm.

    Any ideas, fediverse?

The tipping point for finally getting serious about learning Rust? If I have one more "best practice" for managing dependencies in Go, I am going to go insane and take all of you with me. It's like the bogus "standard" solutions for Kubernetes thing; no one believe y'all anymore.
