@YoVinnie @jeremiah I'm actually leaning towards bolt action now. Im looking for home defense and some potential deer hunting, mid to long range. I have a .40 cal champagne handgun for home defense now, so I'm putting off the rational "buy a shotgun" voice inside of me and opting to go rifle first. The 22 just seems less than ideal with potential targets larger than rabbits.

I need advice on purchasing my first rifle aside from my Marlin Model 60 .22lr. I'm thinking ar_15, reliable, no frills, but I'm sure there are options I don't yet understand. Maybe even a link to specific content by firearms bloggers/vloggers evaluating the choices in the semi-auto rifle realm.
