@ohyran I love your random posts! They never fail to put a smile on my face.
@Gina š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ LOVE this comment!
I really don't want to start another heated debate here, but I thought it would be prudent to put out a statement on the whole 'Snowflakes' thing.
This will be the last I say on the matter; I will try to do better in future. #WeAllMakeMistakes
@stringlytyped I do occasionally favourite toots by accident also. I do agree though, @tootapp is by far the best iOS app out there, IMHO.
@chucker do you check the profile of every person you interract with on Mastodon, before hitting reply? I certainly don't.
Mistakes happen.
If someone has their identity misrepresented in a comment, like 'dude' for example, then that person says 'I actualy identfy as X, can you please refer to me as such in future?' and the person who made the mistake fixes it, what's the issue?
If someone then went on to not respect that, then yeah, there's an issue there.
@jackie I obviously can't talk for anyone else, and I have no context on the example(s) you're referring to.
Personally, I don't recall ever calling you 'dude'; I always thought we had a pretty friendly relationship actually. I enjoyed a lot of your content.
Anyway, if anyone did call you 'dude' I'm sure it was just a mistake.
@wizzwizz4 weāre already doing that in the background.
@chucker I would address them by their username, just like I am to you now. If Iām referring to someone else, I tend to use ātheyā if Iām unsure anyway.
Ipso facto, I feel itās irrelevant.
I appears you think itās not irrelevant, I think it is. Neither of us is right, itās just an opinion.
The oldest song we know of is a Sumerian Hymn, 3400 years old, our oldest writing we know of is about 3000 years old. 300 000 years ago is the first modern Homo Sapiens Sapiens remains from. 10000 years ago we started our first agrarian societies
With a bit of luck you and I can live about 100 years, that's 3000 of us to the birth of our species, 100 of us to when we started using the land, 34 of us to that Hymn and 30 of us until our first piece of known writing.
@poetgrant š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ thatās good!
@EclecticEclipse I used to run a Zimbra server at home. It worked well, but was a lot of work.
If youāre just looking to cut costs, Iād recommend Zoho as a host. They have a simple privacy policy and features comparable to Gsuite.
Their lowest tier gives you 5GB of mail storage, but is only $1/m. You can add more storage if needed, or upgrade to a higher tier.
@hypolite @codesections @LogicalDash @wizzwizz4 pinned toot? Iāve never pinned a toot to my profile, that I know of. Where do these comments come from? Theyāre just bizarre to me.
@chucker @kungtotte @LogicalDash @codesections FFS here we go again...
Iāll try to explain again...That discussion was about gender references in a personās bio. It makes me cringe (and it still does) because I personally feel that mentioning oneās gender has no relevance here.
Again, itās just my opinion. It has nothing to do with my feelings on how someone labels themselves (I couldnāt care less as long as theyāre happy) and someoneās gender will NEVER affect a mod action I take.
You're white = you hate PoC
You're male = you are a woman hating mysoginist
You're straight = you hate the LGBTQ2 (sorry if thats missing a group).
You're a white male = you are priviledged
You're conservative = you support Trump
You're a Christian = you hate everyone.
These are the assumptions people on the fediverse have trolled me over.
No matter who you are or what you say, someone is going to disagree with you. Someone is going to troll you. There are trolls in every community.
I'm staying on Fosstodon whether I agree or disagree with what Kev said. I'm here because I wanted to be a part of a community around one of my passions.
Thats why this place exists. There are people from all different walks... lets show grace towards each other, even if we disagree.
Some of you guys scream inclusion (which I strongly support) but in the same breath troll someone who disagrees with you on a issue.
Lets show grace, tone down being self-absorbed and keep it focused on FOSS.
@termix07012 I am standing behind what I say. My opinion hasnāt changed, this just isnāt the right forum. TL;DR itās not worth the drama.
@ashfurrow oh, and the gender thing...
That makes me cringe, not because Iām against the whole they/them thing, but because I think it has no relevance here.
Again, Iād take no action against those who choose to put something like that in their profile.
@ashfurrow my Toot was aimed at no specific group - no gender, no race etc. I was (wrongly) airing a frustration that I had where I think some people are overly sensitive (full post coming soon with more context).
That doesnāt mean Iād take any action against those people, just because they frustrate me personally. Iād never do such a thing.
Finally, weāre re-wording the CoC to make it less ambiguous. This will be signed off by the team and our Patrons.
Does this help?
@ashfurrow hey Ash, sorry been away the last couple days, so not been online much.
To me, inclusive means to treat people fairly wherever possible. By āradically inclusiveā we wanted to articulate that we mean _everyone_.
So if someone joins Fosstodon and you message me saying āHey Kev, that person that just joined is homophobicā I wouldnāt just take your word for it, Iād wait to see evidence of that homophobia before taking action.
