"No Blacs" [sic] sprayed on a house in Milnrow, not that far from here.
This is the country that we are building in 2018. It needs to stop.
(Contrary to the article, this is NOT MANCHESTER. It comes under *Greater* Manchester for policing and administrative purposes, but Milnrow is a little town on the moors, close to the Yorkshire border.)
If you are a cis, straight, white person you can pretty much have a reasonable social life in whatever town or area you live in.
If you are queer in any way - gay, trans, bi, asexual etc - then you end up travelling many miles (usually to Manchester if you're within 50 miles!) to meet similar people, and going out in your own area can often be a risk to your safety.
@mkwadee@vfrmedia I was surprised to see fresh fruit from Kent in the Tesco supermarket in Lerwick on the Shetland Islands. It's nearly 1,000 miles from London.
@vfrmedia@mkwadee What you do notice is how quickly shop shelves empty on Scottish islands when the ferry doesn't run for a couple of days in bad weather. It takes about three days for the fresh stuff to disappear at for example the Stornoway Tesco.
@priryo@simon_brooke That's a good idea, because I could then listen to either podcasts or my chosen radio station via an app on my mobile phone.
I liked DAB (World Service, 6Music etc) but I was using a cheap adaptor that just transmitted the DAB audio via FM and it seems to have given up the ghost. I can't go back to listening to Radio Leeds, it's shocking.
@simon_brooke It's all built-in to the car dashboard and can't be replaced. The car is a 2003 Toyota Yaris - it must be one of the last cars ever made with a tape player!
@simon_brooke We've got a local station full of ancient bigoted phone-in callerss ("gay people getting married? they'll be marrying dogs next!"), a pop station owned by Murdoch and full of plugs for The S*n, or Heart FM.
@ghost_bird Management are very good at locking themselves away when the natural fertiliser hits the cooling system.
I worked at a place that got on the national news for a data breach. Management spent days locked up in meeting rooms while the press hung around outside.
