@jakebeamish Or just completely different names. I have a (legit) limited company and I was shocked when there were seemingly no checks done on me at all. I registered one afternoon and the next morning received an auto-email giving me my company number.

You could most likely input your name as Mickey Mouse and your address as 123 High Street and have a registered company tomorrow.

@Antanicus Photo source is given as "My Local Bobby". The company was founded in 2016, is based at a paper address with 150+ other "companies" and has just the one director.

Their website is a Wix freebie and gives just a mobile phone (starting 07) number to contact. I call bullshit on the whole story - a tiny company with no assets and no activities trying to boost its profile.

@Antanicus What's with the picture on that article? It's a van with German plates and a badly Photoshopped logo. If they were as big/successful as their press release says, surely they'd have a real picture of one of their own vehicles?

@mattcropp That looks so nice! I'd try making it, but you literally can't buy grits here.

@devurandom It's nearly 20 years ago! Our oldies station plays stuff from the 1960s up to the early 2000s now, and they are on AM.

@ntnsndr It was HDMI and graphics issues that pushed me off the latest Kubuntu, to be honest.

Compositing issues and flickering in full-screen VLC, regular incidents where the desktop was displayed half-way off my screen, just random annoyances.

@ntnsndr I love Debian 9 with KDE. I've tried a few others - most recently the latest Kubuntu - but I always find myself coming back to this.

It works perfectly on my ThinkPad (once non-free wifi drivers are installed) and while the software isn't the very latest I don't have a problem with that as it all works.

There isn't much to be said about Debian other than once it's installed, it chugs along for *years* without a problem.

@cute_weeds I've had a .eu domain since they launched, but I'm likely to have to move domains later this year because of political bullshit.

I might change from .eu to .su, it's only one character difference and they're both about as relevant as each other /s

@cute_weeds Once they become more popular, every time you give someone an email or web address they're going to ask "is that .co.uk or just .uk?".

@cute_weeds The .uk domain is split into a few different second-level domains: .co.uk for general/company use, .org.uk for organisations, .me.uk for no apparent reason. There are also second-level domains that have always been reserved - .gov.uk, .nhs.uk, .police.uk, .ac.uk for colleges, .mod.uk for military etc.

Then they had the bright idea of letting anyone register a .uk domain, which has sort of broken everything. They are not in wide use as yet.

#LocalElections: #Labour have taken control of Kirklees council in West Yorkshire which has been "no overall control" since 1999.

@clacke My geographical knowledge is usually pretty good, but in this case it needs an upgrade! I always thought the island *was* Hong Kong, but it seems like most of HK is actually joined onto the mainland!

@mkwadee I never understood why anyone would vote #UKIP - a party based around a single national issue - for local council elections, but they did.

We had Lab/Con/Lib/Green standing locally, but no one seemed to want to actually campaign. The safe-as-houses Labour councillor only pops out once every four years to get re-elected then promptly disappears.

I voted, because I always do, but this was one of the first elections where I thought - why am I bothering when they can't be bothered?
