Fun idea: Make neural nets fed with the collected works of specific philosophers, then make those virtual philosophers argue for eternity.

How do you maintain momentum to do things? How do you get out of bed at a normal hour?
I feel like I'm stuck in a cycle of self-loathing and no energy. I feel bad even complaining about it.
I don't want pity, I just don't know what to do. I have never felt this alone before.

How do you overcome feelings of inferiority, depression, melancholy and suicidal ideation? What helps you stay grounded enough to hang in there?
Recently I've felt that life is relatively pointless, and that many of my wants and goals are unattainable and completely arbitrary, and when deconstructed, devoid of meaning. I'm not sure how to cope with this feeling, and it makes me want to die.

@zatnosk @nightpool @theoutrider @Gargron It could definitely be better. They used to feature a Community Spotlight, which was good for early user discovery. I've always felt that Diaspora lacked a proper user directory - Friendica and Hubzilla have them, and users can opt in to a shared global directory between instances.
I will also admit that the bot posts have seriously hurt original content discovery.

@nightpool @theoutrider @Gargron One workaround that Diaspora has is that new users are encouraged to post an introduction with #NewHere in the status. Some community members like to act as a welcoming party and greet them.

@lain And the further in you go, the more you're expected to write whitepapers, attend conferences, and hold Marxist values.

@bob The same argument has been used for Linux before as well. While there's value in saying a network effect is necessary, the perspective written here is essentially "If these platforms don't reach a critical mass of users, they have failed ", completely disregarding that if it exists and even has a small community, someone will use it.

I feel like it's possible to do, but I wonder whether the protocol itself is too model-agnostic.
In theory you could use AP to federate data about anything, and the senders and receivers don't necessarily have to be users.
Inter-federation between platforms requires recreating endpoints, schema values, object names and URIs in a fashion that is consistent enough to provide reliable communication from system a to system b. Each project must conform to the same methods of utility to work.

I figure someone has, I can probably search for something. But as a thought experiment, it might actually be really useful to bang out a client that can read and render the JSON at different endpoints, and put valued into a really simple interface.
It might also be useful to write some kind of guide to show how a simple status and stream application could be put together with those technologies.
I feel like I'd largely be working with API and not federation, though. :/

I wonder if anyone has tried to make an OStatus client that only has an ncurses interface.
