    @natecull @ajroach42 @enkiv2 "Semantic" is a good idea. "Web" not so much.
    SGML even worse.

    @ajroach42 @enkiv2 I think the Semantic Web is a great *idea*, I'm just not 100% sold on the specific technologies Berners-Lee chose to implement it in, either.

    RDF in particular looks better the further away from it you are

    @satchmoz That's the only explanation I can find for a company that's hoarding a quarter trillion dollars they can't use to build better products, nor do anything else with. Only hoarding.

    Background:
    In multiplexed text, the first stream is always plain text (utf8) content. The parallel streams are for layout, style, and hyperlinking.
    This is so the text is always clean and the graph structure is separate from the content.

    What's a blockchain?

    It's a thing for people who don't have the faintest idea what it is to talk about, helping disinformation, and obscurantism.

    Data structures and computer science concepts don't destroy the environment. Imagine if you developed irrational reactions for other data structures, like a vector or a matrix.

    Maybe you want Bitcoin miners to stop consuming energy that has been produced and planned for in China.

    If you want that, say that, stop being so offensively ignorant.

    @amylsacks

    The Russia thing is a derailment that some people preferred to focus on because they can't seem to be able to think of anything else.

    The crux of the matter is that Jester Crew are misrepresenting Mastodon, they are using stripped-down and incompatible Mastodon software, and they're confusing people about what Mastodon is.

    It doesn't help that they're xenophobic scum against a number of countries, but that would be fine if they kept it to themselves.
    They aren't doing that.

    Acting in good faith towards the unreasonable who profit from havoc is a sure way to cause more problems.

    There are no win scenarios, but you lose less by setting the record straight and not letting falsehoods stand. Sooner, in the media, rather than later.

    Any news on the AGPL violation front? If not through legal means, at least in the media, their behaviour cannot stand.

    Well done, Mancunians.

    Anti-homeless spikes have been removed in Manchester, England, after locals kept covering them with cushions:

    Merry Christmas, Yuletide, Hanukkah Sameakh, or none of the above, or whatever rocks your boat. Hope you get a respite from unmerciful routine and societal pressure to perform in adequate ways, enjoy youselves, with your loved ones where available, and reload your batteries to give a good fight in our formidable struggle. We are many, they are few.

    I rise my cup and toast, cheers to you! #socialcoop

    @djsundog The only logic about "move fast and break things" is:

    1) If ypu move fast, you beat the competition.
    (pointless in a collaborative economy, there's no one to be beaten)

    2) Break things, only makes sense if you break somebody else's things.

    (pointless in a collaborative economy, unless you really want to self-inflict damage)

    It's interesting that the idea of the superhero isn't just a modern western thing. It obviously can be traced back to titans in Greek mythology, but also to completely unrelated myths in ancient China.
    These ideas have been with us since forever.

    Gopherine is going to have support for multiplexed text extensions, and the ability to import cards which are just png files with hidden data encoded in them. This is the hidden data of a png card, and what it looks like to people when they handle it. Gopherine takes these and renders them as a type of hypertext https://social.coop/media/uXIrBi52G_KBCf-7-9s

    Highlight usernames of the form
    @username@twitter.com
    in toots, pointing automatically to the corresponding Twitter web page
    https://twitter.com/username

    For example:
    @greatdismal@twitter.com
    would be translated into a hyperlink that points to:

    https://twitter.com/greatdismal

    Tweets don't need this special treatment because they already have an associated URI and the URL for every tweet is accessible via https.
