@enkiv2 @bhtooefr Honestly? For that use case I use e-mail. For lower priority stuff (like news precis) the data gets e-mailed to the account my mobile is hooked to, and I scan through it when I have time (or dump it if I'm out of gift a shit).
For higher priority stuff I use XMPP, and for crash-priority stuff I use Pushover or speech synthesized phone calls.
@bhtooefr @strypey @enkiv2 That's true. And most people aren't invested in building their own "Google Maps works-a-like" maps for their neighborhoods.
@bhtooefr @enkiv2 I've done it with a bot that renders HTML into text and shoves it into an Etherpad page (https://github.com/virtadpt/exocortex-halo/tree/master/paywall_breaker) but the problem there is you lose all text formatting. Problematic to skim through at best, requires re-editing later for legibility. I've since migrated to Wallabag (https://github.com/wallabag/wallabag), which is much more friendly.
The processing of data isn't optimized for lower power machines specifically, it just works out that way because I do have it optimized for BLUF (bottom line, up front), and I track down the full monty if it's important.
@ajroach42 DESQview was amazing. The SysOp of Wings BBS showed me his setup in the early 1990s, he was running four nodes in DV on a 386DX40 with 8mb of RAM. I think it was running on Wildcat, but not sure. Each node in a DV text window. Sickest setup I'd ever seen. He let me play Wolf3D on his main rig and gave me a full membership on the BBS for free.
@ieure I used to love Desqview. Could dial out, edit text, compile, run a QWK reader... All at once on a DOS box.
@aeonofdiscord But is quite surreal in a Live and Let Die kind of way, as I recall.
Did your back the Kickstarter for the reboot?
@Elizafox @kaniini @Gargron I'll throw $50us into the pot if you merge that patch, too.
*snicker* from poking through old comp.mail.sendmail posts:
> Why is it so difficult to do this in sendmail?
Because sendmail makes the easy hard, the hard hard and the impossible hard.
@thegibson Aahhhh.... Infragard. Perpetually two years behind SOTA.
I see the wave coming in.
Hackers.town is doing our part. Registrations are now open again.
Feels free to join us in our weird little part of the net.

@starkatt @Leucrotta @noelle I am reminded of the cafe' driving out of business with quiet recordings of police cars and people fighting with one another.
The problem with living in an oligarchy is it doesn't seem to matter to them how much the rest of us lose as temperatures rise, they're still earning money off of us.
Happy Birthday, Debian. π π π
25 years old.
Ian Murdock announced #Debian on August 16th 1993. The first release, 0.01, was made the next month, on September 15th.
Congratulations & thanks to the Debian volunteers, past and present, for making it such a fantastic distro. Here's to the next 25 years.

So, epaper display and a pi zero w. What kind of cool stuff can we do with it?
Add some buttons that launch scripts to display some information like weather, calendar, tides, etc?
Music streaming server with now playing info on the display?
Is there a Jenkins Security Advisory drinking game?
Rich and famous people aren't your friends.
