@ohyran You could also try out Sway: https://swaywm.org/

(It looks interesting, and I've heard good things. A lot of it has been split into wlroots, which is used by a lot of other Wayland WMs and things.)

@ohyran Sad thing is that they don't always work well enough to prevent all ENT doc ear cleaning visits. But preventing *some* is definitely better than having to go every year or so. 👍

@ted People cared about the clock in the left quite a bit on the Internet. This happened a year ago, though. It was due to phones adopting notches.

As it's not possible to move the clock around without root, people stopped making a fuss over the course of a year.

Those who could root (and/or install a custom ROM) to change it, did. Those would couldn't move it went on to complaining about other things.

    Understanding environmental impact is hard.

Me and my gas-guzzling mini-van have a much lower impact than most "green car" owners... simply because I drive way, way less than average.

Planes aren't bad for the environment because they burn lots of fuel. Planes are bad for the environment because they are convenient and encourage, enable and create a market for massive amounts of travel.

Switching to advanced, super-clean vehicles won't improve things nearly as much as telecommuting would.

@theoutrider If it isn't fixed upstream in the kernel anytime soon (UGH!), you may need to start thinking about LTS distros for the laptop at some point, with the latest browsers on top.

    https://linuxlifecycle.com/

A trick is finding one that is free, has desktop support (especially for browsers, like Firefox), will last more than a year or two, and has a new enough kernel — yet not too new.

Of course, it's sucky, but not as bad as using what will become an old, unsupported distro? *sigh*

@theoutrider Apparently, there were TWO models of the MacBook Air at the same time you got yours, and the more common variant doesn't use NVME, but yours does... and everyone with your particular one is stuck with 4.15 and there has been no fix. 😱

@theoutrider The solution is, obviously, to burn all tech to the ground and throw the remains off the top a very tall building. 🤪

    @theoutrider It's obviously between 4.15 (Jan 28, 2018) and 4.16 (Apr 1, 2018), and I think it's in this file: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commits/master/drivers/nvme/host/pci.c

Considering it's related to disconnection issues, I think it _might_ be this commit:

    https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/4244140d7b8f406b7edfd01c050dea783aa1efc5#diff-bc4c090f021c046a7d256a3fcf86b7da

    and its sibling commit

The web browser Brave is marketed as a privacy-friendly ad-free alternative, but that's pretty disingenuous.

Brave exists not to protect privacy, but to make money from selling ads.

Brave is a commercial company funded by venture capital. Its business model is selling advertising and cryptocurrency investment.

One of Brave's owners is Peter Thiel's Founders Fund. Thiel is also the head of Palantir (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palantir_Technologies) and on the board of Facebook.

I do not recommend using Brave.
