@Ocean @sn0w One thing I learned, to my displeasure, from this episode is that "Normandy" (the thing they're using to push the fix to those who don't have studies turned on) exists, is turned on by default, and is not turned off by turning off "studies," telemetry, or by using a build with telemetry removed. The fact that it shares a name with a famous *invasion* is icing on the shitcake.

@purplehippo @bob This happens at *exactly* the same time that Google is rolling out a change to YouTube that tries to get around uBlock and AdBlock, call me a conspiracy theorist, but I don't think it was a mistake.

@bob This is worse even than Heartbleed since it allows blanket unprotected execution on a client and most users will continue since the alerting is not very obvious and a fix isn't in sight.

My fix would be to get a de-googled Chrome fork such as Iridium, personally.  Firefox has been consistently shitting the bed for two years now.

If you do not have the freedom to modify the software as you see fit, it is not Free Software.  Ergo, since Firefox places restrictions on addons, it is not Free Software.

Today is a pointed reminder that Firefox does not respect the Four Freedoms.

A lot of people are celebrating Mozilla's further restrictions on what addons you can use "for security reasons" but I would like to remember the very existence of this code violates Freedom 0 and Freedom 2 and therefore make Firefox not Free Software.

@mangeurdenuage @moonman You aren't going to make all people like all other people at times.  But I think that these lists are harmful because they allow just a few people to make decisions on what vast amounts of other people see, with no input or consideration for what those people see.  It removes power from the user, and gives it to a privileged few.  It is, in short, the tools of a ruling class to oppress a minority.

Sad to see that just even being around the bad people is enough to get you excommunicated these days.

I fully expect I'll be wearing the modern equivalent of a Star of David to be shuffled off to a camp sooner than later.

Removing to possibility of making money out of it makes it's non-free.
    It's a restriction of:
-Freedom0: The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose.
    And
-Freedom2: The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others .

“Free software” does not mean “noncommercial”. A free program must be available for commercial use, commercial development, and commercial distribution. Commercial development of free software is no longer unusual; such free commercial software is very important. You may have paid money to get copies of free software, or you may have obtained copies at no charge. But regardless of how you got your copies, you always have the freedom to copy and change the software, even to sell copies.

A free program must offer the four freedoms to any user that obtains a copy of the software, provided the user has complied thus far with the conditions of the free license covering the software. Putting some of the freedoms off limits to some users, or requiring that users pay, in money or in kind, to exercise them, is tantamount to not granting the freedoms in question, and thus renders the program nonfree.

@purplehippo I mean, there's already games which require accounts with a third party service to play, which is a form of DRM.
