My biggest gripe with mastodon has been that it is a discord first project in terms of dev/org chatter. Mostly because it seems really weird for a project with the aims it has to use a service like discord. I'm aware it's hard to find something that directly addresses discord's niche in OSS but I just find it annoying that somehow this is uncontroversial to the dissonants.

I'm getting super interested in Library and Information Science. Does anyone have a good survey/introductory text I can poke at? I'd prefer an e-book if possible, I've been reading through https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Introduction_to_Library_and_Information_Science but it seems a bit incomplete.

The fediverse is probably the most important thing i feel like I'm involved with right now. As we start having these conversations about social media, the fediverse is something I can point to where many kinds of community models are explored outside the almost defacto context of ad-driven services. It feels good to be here. It feels good to know that we have relcalaimed some of the most revolutionary social technology from monolithic exploitation.

We are an experientially different sort of thing. The whole Fediverse is just fundamentally different than other types of social media. We've somehow rediscovered netiquette, but we've also brought to it this unapologetic acceptance of the fundamental humanity of others. This is amazing :D

I've had so many good conversations here on so many subjects. I've gotten comfort when I've needed it. I've felt with you when tragedy has hit. The sense of community here is just terribly strong.

There are two really worrying trends right now in regards to internet accessibility. Web page bloat and the sneaking acceptability of horrible ISP practices with mobile providers. They both stem from the assumption that everyone has access to some form of broadband internet at home. The reality is that for a huge portion the world, the only portal they have to this space is a cheap smartphone. They are not really luxuries but the most economic form of internet access available.

Just wanted to remind everyone that what we are part of here in the whole fediverse is something wonderful. Even if it feels mundane at times we are forging the infrastructure of community through our momentary sharing. You are creating community, and it is truly global and multicultural. Even these months in, I have not been this excited about the potential of a technology since I first figured out IRC.

I mean not to point out that bitcoin escrow services are pretty common and there are at least a few instant bitcoin to cash services that do all the tricky interfacing-with-banking-and-law stuff so most of the hard part of this from a financial perspective is already solved.

You are misguided in your analysis, that is quite sad.
You have clearly never dealt with any of the organizations you are casually comparing me to. You're upset, and that's understandable, but you're really insulting the literal murder victims that your ill advised rhetoric is attempting to draw upon. I am a comparatively civil netizin. Sea Org doesn't have friendly disagreements. You're not getting blocked. I don't do that, but you are getting manually ignored for a bit.
