@Elizafox this somewhat reminds of Neapolitan ice cream which is good so it is acceptable thanks
@CobaltVelvet I don't think I've ever caught "Exception" itself because it is a base class for all the more specific errors. I usually catch things like ValueError, IndexError, KeyError and so on because I want to make my own handlers just for those cases specifically
@darius "the cloud" is just a new name for what is basically timeshare systems on mainframes.
It demonstrates how effective "clever" (deceptive?) marketing can be. They get people to think they are being leading edge by putting everything "in the cloud" when they are actually regressing back to a 40 to 50 year old paradigm.
@bob this can't come soon enough. The state of things online is so bad that 4MB per *single page visit* would be a huge improvement for most major sites.
This is the sound of rhubarb growing in the dark. And someone really needs to take some sound samples to make a percussion track from it.

"Forced rhubarb" is a technique for growing fresh rhubarb in the Winter, while keeping it in pitch dark conditions. Done correctly, the plants grow super fast. Fast enough that you can hear it popping and creaking as it grows!
@clacke that might be what is needed for a lot of people to "fix the internet" but it will be a hard sell. We are all conditioned to want "discoverability" and federation critics/silo apologists already think that is lacking here.
To suggest we should actually make content LESS discoverable? We have huge companies who make billions from us and control us by ensuring we are no longer able to "self discover" or even want to. They won't easily give up that power.

I think a lot of times some people misinterpret "I think what you said was offensive" as "I am offended with what you said". They sound similar but are not really the same thing.
Like maybe the person calling you out isn't actually as hypersensitive as you think and they are just letting you know that you sounded like a jackass and perhaps you might want to work on that.
And if that upsets you maybe that person isn't the sensitive one, or at least the *only* sensitive one.
I dunno.

So I'm picking through the data volume of an old production server that was just running and neglected for like almost 7 years and has to be rebuilt and it has directories full of PHP and other source code and random data dumps...
and they are literally named things like ./garbage/app/shit ...
And the person who put them there left the company years before I started...
Ho boy.
We could have a Sinclair ZX2021 which would be like a Sinclair ZX81 except 1 gigabyte of RAM instead of 1 kilobyte and connects to our TVs in full colour HD...
Maybe that's a cursed idea. But small simple cheap, usable and accessible is possible and good.
$49.95 little computer in little keyboard form factor all ready to use just plug in and go? With BASIC included even?
Or ClickPix?
Maybe a play on the word "pixel" since it is an editor for bitmap images?
Fixel? Mixel? I dunno LOL
I suppose it is unhelpful to make the list longer at this point. :blobtonguewink:
@Clipsey @tcql @bob @brainblasted Thats a good name too iif you don't like acronyms, though I'd say it suggests it is merely an image *viewer* rather than an editor.
Also the search utility of the same name comes to mind first for many people, but that might not be too important as there wouldn't be a big overlap in user bases.
@bob @brainblasted my write-up vote would be GNU PIE which was suggested in the bug report ("Picture Image Editor" or some such thing?) But maybe that's just because I'm a bit hungry right now.
So #YouTube is up to their usual BS again, formally adding "hacking" (infosec) videos to the list of forbidden content. It is certain to be enforced by The #Algorithms before long. Seems they are determined to become the premiere destination for vapid, pointless video content.
The reach of this policy will be broad. Retro games are already being jerked around for talking about "hardware hacks" of classic systems. Makers and modders of all kinds are now more vulnerable to the #banhammer.
