@alpacaherder@thegibson@sungo I think it was the Court recordings yes. When I had hackers.town streaming on my little LibreElec it started reading numbers off in Spanish at one point and I think that's what the title said it was :blobthinkingcool:
@violet@natecull there should be a picture of a USB stick for scale...the picture is very zoomed in; that circuit board is no more than 10mm wide.
@SexyCyborg did a video on these sort of things you could buy in Shenzhen or on TaoBao or Alibaba. USB cables that intercept data, functional iPhone charger clones with built in cameras and microphones etc...some are cheesy but others are very convincing.
@ajroach42 ugh...Etsy's move to a "simpler, better" billing system has not been going well since it started and now this. Etsy's customers' concerns look like they were warranted.
@ajroach42 so that "billing error" affected more people than Etsy suggested then, or has another mess happened?
Perhaps I should get back to working on a new release of that #tryton e-shop project of mine. There might be more appeal in a Free software, self-hostable Web shop platform than I thought.
@kev a lab instructor where I went to university named Kees den Hartigh was (is?) a Linux enthusiast and encouraged students to use it as an affordable way to have a UNIX like environment similar tho what was used in classes. When kernel v1.0 was released on 1994 I installed it alongside Windows 3.1 and have used it ever since.
I went Linux full time around the time I'd had it with XP and SQL 2000 suffering massive worm attacks and DCOM vulnerabilities about 15 years ago.
@Azure public libraries are the most (financially and physically) accessible means of continuing education and also increasingly serve as "community halls" and even maker spaces of sorts.
The city where I live just opened the new central branch library last year and it's like they have everything there and "oh we happen to lend books too"
@ink_slinger this is nothing new. The food guide and the American equivalent have been both criticized and influenced by various industry groups since they were created. If it isn't corn / grain growers it will be dairy or meat producers etc.
@velartrill If you want energy use to go down, energy /prices/ have to increase.
Efficiency /buys more power expenditure/, because it effectively /lowers prices/.
Wm. Stanley Jevons, 1860s. The Jevons paradox.
We've made computers millions of times more efficient over the past 40 -50 years. That hasn't /reduced/ the number of computers or amount of computation, it's /increased/ it. And ... for comparatively little upside.
It was my brother's birthday today which is fine except I just realized that as of now the majority of us "kids" in the family can now officially order from the seniors' menu 😬
