Well, that's promising. You're reminding me I want to give Gnome another try.

Maybe one of these I'll find an old sacrificial kindle and try to hack it to use as a screen.

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Wednesday, 03-Oct-2018 00:42:38 EDT C.Cameron @artixx I really like the Alphasmart. It's a weird old device - it's discontinued, but you can still buy them for $30-40 USD on Amazon (not that I love giving Amazon my money). It's not very nerdy, got more use in schools and by writers. I hope someone picks it up and makes a new version some time. I've seen it mentioned in conversations about the Freewrite, since it's like that, only wired and affordable.
I'm curious about Remarkable. I'd love a linux ebook reader too. Have you used it?

Well, not really. I "only" have 130GB worth of photos, and have a 250GB SSD. Once it's all tidy, I'll move a good chunk of that to an external drive. But at least I won't have an extra 200GB of duplicates. :) -

C.Cameron (cameron@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Tuesday, 02-Oct-2018 11:22:17 EDT C.Cameron I am making good use of Shotwell's duplicate finding function to sort out 15 years worth of messy photos. Starting with a blank slate, and importing photos one folder at a time, so it will only copy one of each photo into my Pictures folder.
All this because I spent five years juggling external harddrives with a small harddrive on a Macbook Air (never again with the small hard drive!). Now those days are over, and there is hope.

I did see that. I'd be interested, but it doesn't look like it's made it to the US yet. I'll keep an eye out.And yeah, I guess I like weird stuff. :) My dream world would have all low powered, non-backlit screens. Easier on my eyeballs. As it is, I've been writing more on my Alphasmart Neo and on paper to give my eyes a break.

Seems reasonable. I like knowing what linuxy companies are up to, so long as they aren't spamming. If I didn't like their vibe, I'd just unfollow them. Not a big deal. -

I think about this too. I don't work with computers full time, but feel the needed to do more grounded, outdoors, hands-on work pretty often. Checking phone and email and all the stuff makes me feel scattered. -

I go back and forth between trying all the fun desktops and then installing Mate and forbidding myself from twiddling with installs, so I can get actual work done. :)
