@pfm It looks to have the same problem as Twister. You have to download a client. It also seems to rely on critical mass; it looks for other clients on the local network for initial connectivity.

It looks to me like no one's thinking outside the box. You have these threee neatly separated categories: Centralised, federated and peer-to-peer.

It's a little too neat for me.

@pfm Oh, and like Twister, the GUI looks like poop because developers made it, and 90% of developers don't care about UX and design (a major flaw seen in many voluntary/individual efforts). I'm not sure I would've signed up for Mastodon if it didn't have such a polished and user friendly exterior. I'm a programmer, but I don't want to deal with ugly or broken interfaces when I'm not at work.

emacs because it supports multiple frames, frame-splitting, jumping between buffers, running whole shells and other REPLs inside it, and interactive regexp search-and-replace, all with commands that are in my muscle memory since last century.

vi (vim with an empty ~/.vimrc to disable all the misguided and annoying value-add) because it starts up in a tenth of a second right there in my terminal. I never liked emacs in the terminal.

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kidβ„’ is
that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job.
scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up
your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is
    better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU'RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU
    WERE BEFORE.

    & redheadhatchet

One of my college professors used to say β€œanything worth doing is worth
doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do
anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything
    Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them
at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga
is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds
impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is
impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after
being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy
    to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly... because doing it poorly is
    better than not doing it.

If I'm typing a bunch of unix command line stuff trying to figure out the right solution, and I eventually DO figure out the solution, one thing I do when possible is re-run the command with a comment like

$ doing-the-thing.sh # This is the one that actually works

So when I inevitably search my shell command history later, I have nice little notes

@rice Tell her to fuck off and to stop trying to dictate your life as you're specifically acting opposite to how she would because you'd kill yourself before becoming what she is, and to stop making you look like a retard by asociation.
It doesn't matter if it's true. Works much, much better if it's in public. It'll anger her but also humilliate her and force her to stop if just to save herself the embarassment. It worked for me.

All 2.7 million recorded calls to the medical advice phone number 1177 (operated by the municipalities in Sweden) answered by the subcontractor Medicall since 2013 were found to be available to everyone on an unprotected web server.
That's 170000 hours of sensitive phone calls with symptoms, etc.
